Help us honor Bernard Reeves' 40 years of service and dedication to the Zeta Delta chapter, the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, and to the University. Help us honor Bernard Reeves, and support the future UNC Charlotte greek life students by donating today. The R. Bernard Reeves Scholarship was established in 2017 by the alumni brothers of the Zeta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and the kindness of more than 100 donors. This memorial scholarship honors R.Bernard Reeves and his lifelong contributions to UNC Charlotte’s oldest chartered Greek organization on campus, Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. The Zeta Delta Chapter was chartered on August 1, 1970, with Bernard being initiated as a member in 1973. Post graduation, he served as the chapter advisor from 1977 until his passing in 2015. For nearly 40 years, he provided an exemplary template for over 300 Zeta Delta initiates and countless others across the province to contribute positively to our communities, uphold the ideals of this grand fraternity, and to just be “Good "Kappa Men". His dedication to the fraternity was apparent as he also held several positions throughout the province and Charlotte’s Kappa alumni chapter. Bernard will always be remembered for his commitment to Zeta Delta and UNC Charlotte, and we honor his legacy with this scholarship. Scholarship Purpose This scholarship is intended to provide financial support to students pursuing study at UNC Charlotte who are members of UNC Charlotte's Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, or members of a Greek organization from populations historically underrepresented at UNC Charlotte. The Theresa Perez Memorial Scholarship was established to support graduate students in the Department of Middle, Secondary and K-12 Education. The Theresa Perez Memorial Scholarship has been established to support graduate students in the Department of Middle, Secondary and K-12 Education. To date, has been raised in memory of Theresa. Please help us reach our $10,000 goal. Cato College of Education Dr. Theresa Perez, Professor Emerita, Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education, dedicated 14 years to UNC Charlotte. She established the Teaching English as a Second Language program in the Cato College of Education and served as a tireless advocate for immigrant rights and educational equity. Dr. Theresa Perez, mother, trailblazer, iconic educator, and community activist died at the age of 85 after a fearless battle against ALS on January 13, 2019. Dr. Perez is survived by her husband of 66 years Manuel Perez and children: Dr. Sandra Perez, Andrea Perez-Lemus, Tim Perez, Sallie Perez Saiz, Raquel Perez, and Tino Perez; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Delfin and predeceased in death by her daughter Rebecca Ford and her mother Isabel Hernandez. Dr. Perez was born in 1933 in San Jose, California, where her mother was a migrant farm worker and her father was in the US Navy. She was raised by her mother and grandparents in California migrant farm-worker camps until age five when her family finally settled in Fresno, California. Living in the labor camps exposed her to many different cultures and experiences that served to forge her indomitable spirit to fight against social injustice, to develop her vision of inclusion and tolerance, and a life of service to others. It was also during these early years in her educational experience as a bilingual speaker, she acquired the resiliency that would help her navigate through diverse and challenging experiences to advocate for the needs of others from migrant and dual language backgrounds. In 1953, she married her husband Manuel, which marked the beginning of their lifelong partnership to bring about social change in the San Joaquin Valley. She attended college at a time when universities were not open to many minority students. According to Dr. Andrew Alvarado, in 1960, there were only twelve Chicano Students at Fresno State. Dr. Perez obtained a B.A. in Spanish (1969) and her M.A. in Linguistics and bilingualism (1975). She was an inspirational model in her quest for social and educational justice. A champion of affirmative action and bilingual education issues, she fought fearlessly both on the Fresno State campus and also in the community where she took on school districts. In 1975, Dr. Perez was the first Latina to run for the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. Although she was unsuccessful in this bid, the following year she embarked on a journey that would change the direction of her life. At age 43, after having seven children, she moved to Stanford University with her three youngest children to obtain her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teacher Education. In 1980, upon completion of her doctoral program, she returned to Fresno to serve her community as a Professor at CSUF and a community activist. In 1998, she was invited to join the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) where she continued to focus on issues of gender and equity in the classroom. She was a prolific scholar, educator, and mentor and received many outstanding recognition and awards, including 1989 Woman of the Year National Hispanic Scholarship Fund; 1991 Teacher of the Year Award, California Association of Mexican Educators; 1992 One of 20 Fresno Women Committed to Change, and many others. In 2012, she retired from UNCC and moved back to Fresno, CA. Dr. Perez dedicated her life to education in the pursuit of social justice. As friends of Dr. Perez, it is our hope to endow a scholarship at UNC Charlotte in her memory. Our current fundraising goal is $10,000 which will help us build support towards endowment. Ultimately, the scholarship would have over $25,000 raised to become endowed and will be able to continue to share Dr. Perez's spirit and memory for years to come. Support the Student Pantry & provide assistance to UNC Charlotte students that struggle with food insecurity this #GivingTuesday. Jamil Niner Student Pantry First, there is a day of thanks. Then, there are three days of getting deals. Now we have a day to give back. This #GivingTuesday, UNC Charlotte is asking alumni & friends to support the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. Following Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a global day dedicated to giving and celebrating generosity. For UNC Charlotte, this is a day that brings the community together to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. We will celebrate giving by supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry on campus to ensure 49er students have the resources they need this holiday season. The mission of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry is to ensure food security, human dignity, and well-being on campus by providing in-need UNC Charlotte students with healthy, culturally appropriate emergency food. The Student Pantry hopes to do their part in assuring that no person in the Niner community goes hungry and that every student has access to nutritious food. There are three main goals at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. These goals will help build institutional capacity for combating food insecurity and contribute to student well-being and enhanced learning outcomes for both student volunteers and student clients. To serve students' food insecurity needs. To educate the campus as well as the community about food insecurity. To provide an on-campus site for service learning. The Jamil Niner Student Pantry is able to provide food to 49er students in need during the year due to monetary donations and food drives. However, the holiday season is the pantry's busiest time of year. Making a donation of any dollar amount will help the pantry staff purchase the needed food items for the UNC Charlotte students who are facing food insecurities. In the 2018-2019 academic year, the Jamil Niner Student Pantry served 2,680 students. With this increase, more food was purchased including fresh produce from a local gardening store that allowed the Pantry to grow tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, strawberries, collard greens, basil, and eggplant. The Jamil Niner Student Pantry disseminated over 250 lbs of fresh produce to students. Help the Men's Ice Hockey Club with travel costs so the club team can compete this fall. Men's Ice Hockey As one of the few off-campus club teams, we as Charlotte Ice Hockey Club, have committed a lot of time to our team and community to ensure successful seasons, on and off the ice. However, a lot of our time is spent traveling individually at night. To ensure that our team can be transported to our destinations in a timely and safe manner, we are asking for donations to help fund our travel costs that will include other forms of transportation such as buses and vans rather than individual vehicles. Charlotte Ice Hockey is a self-budgeted team that represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Our clubs purpose is to well represent our university by providing high intensity and well-respected competition all along the East Coast region. The team is in need of your support! In order to compete, we need help in covering the costs for travel expenses, including buses and vans that will transport players and equipment, and sleeping accommodations. With a $7/minute ice time fee, hockey players have high dues and by making a donation to the UNC Charlotte Men's Hockey Club, you will be making a big difference in cutting our travel costs and helping lower each player's annual dues. Without your support, the team will not be able to travel and compete across the East Coast region. Please help the UNC Charlotte Ice Hockey Club continue to compete at the highest level.

Help a group of the Charlotte 49ers Student-Athletes attend the 2020 NCAA Inclusion Forum in Denver, Colorado. SAAC Charlotte 49ers Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is seeking support in order to send 3-5 student-athletes to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Diversity and Inclusion Forum. More than 500 higher education and intercollegiate athletic leaders and student-athletes come together each year at the NCAA Inclusion Forum to discuss programming, engaging dialogue and practical takeaways to empower student-athletes on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives on their campuses. The forum will allow the 49er student-athletes to explore how others are addressing inclusion, educate and empower them to be influencers. SAAC hopes to send as many student-athletes from UNC Charlotte to this special initiative but needs your help paying for the transportation and lodging costs. This year, the NCAA Inclusion Forum will be in Denver, Colorado on April 17-19. Raven Johnson The University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP) Participant Fee Scholarship aims to help students from low-income families to pay the required $250 fee to secure a spot in the program. The UTOP participant fee is submitted by students to cover textbook costs, program supplies, meals, activities, transportation, etc. The $250 participant fee is a major hurdle for students from low-income families when also factoring in orientation costs, Fall semester housing deposits, and other costs and fees associated with students beginning their college careers. Led by Raven Johnson (UTOP '11, UNCC '15), we are calling upon UTOP alumni, mentors, counselors, and program supporters to assist in making UTOP accessible to students from low-income families. About UTOP: Founded by Dr. Herman Thomas, UTOP began in 1986 to facilitate the underrepresented student's transition from high school to college. By involving incoming UNC Charlotte freshmen in a rigorous six-week summer collegiate experience, UTOP builds upon the scholastic abilities of the students through college courses and contact with University academic support and campus life services. UTOP is an excellent opportunity for incoming freshman students to begin their college experience early, gain seven credit hours towards their degree, start with a solid GPA foundation, get acclimated to campus early and build a support system of peers and staff across campus. For more UTOP information, please visit the program's website: utop.uncc.edu UTOP Participant Retention and Graduation: Research from the past 10 years indicates that students who participate in UTOP were retained after one year at a rate nearly 11 percent higher than underrepresented students who did not attend the program and almost 13 percent higher than all first-time freshmen. The percentage of UTOP students who graduated after six years was more than 11.5 percent higher than underrepresented students who did not participate and 10 percent high than all first-time, full-time freshmen.

To date, has been raised for this special space on campus. Cato College of Education Polly Rogers, a Sophomore at UNC Charlotte, tragically passed away in May 2018. She was young, beautiful, and full of life. Polly was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at UNC Charlotte and was studying special education in the Cato College of Education. She was warm and very caring to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Polly's family and friends, along with the UNC Charlotte community, are coming together to honor Polly's memory with a sensory garden which will be located in the Botanical Gardens at UNC Charlotte. The Polly Rogers Sensory Garden, designed with children in mind, will engage and stimulate all the senses through plantings and interactive elements. It is a safe, therapeutic environment for kids with Autism and other disabilities, and is the perfect way to honor Polly who wanted to be a Special Ed teacher. The funds raised through this crowdfunding project will cover the capital construction of the project and any supplementary funds will the help purchase additional materials and amenities for this space. The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), hopes to send 7 students to participate at the Sigma Tau Delta National Convention Atlanta this March The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), has successfully attended the Sigma Tau Delta National Convention in March 2019. Money raised today will help the student group be able to attend next year's conference! Sigma Tau Delta The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), which is one of the oldest ongoing chapters in the nation, sponsors social, intellectual, and scholarly activities on campus throughout the year. In the last few years, Sigma Tau Delta has been able to send students to the national convention, where students present papers, participate in roundtables, or to read their creative work. This year, 7 students have have been accepted to present either their scholarship or their creative work at the conference. A White Elephant book event late last semester! This year every student submitted individual papers and will be participating on panels with fellow students who attend other programs across the US. UNC Charlotte's "reach" will thus be strong and impressive. Sigma Tau Delta is crowdfunding this spring to raise awareness and support of our trip to the National Convention. Help UNC Charlotte purchase materials to build a concrete canoe for the 2019 competition. Megan Turnbull We are a team of civil engineering students at UNC Charlotte who design and construct a concrete canoe each year. Our group participates annually in the American Society of Civil Engineers national concrete canoe competition where we compete against other local, national, and international universities with respected engineering programs. This year's regional Carolinas Competition is being held on April 4-6, 2019 at NC State, and the national competition is on June 6-8 at the Florida Institute of Technology. We are crowdfunding to help pay for construction materials for the canoe and display (concrete mix materials, wood, tools, etc.), printing costs for the design paper hard copies, travel expenses, and other competition essentials. Pouring the Canoe UNC Charlotte first started participating in concrete canoe competitions in the early 70's. Last year, UNC Charlotte won the regional competition (beating out teams such as NC State, Duke, Clemson, and USC) for the first time in two decades. We went on to compete at Nationals where we placed 15th overall and won the Spirit of the Competition Award. We hope to continue that legacy and inspire future engineers with our success this year. 2018 National Competition in San Diego

Support this scholarship to honor Ken Lambla, the founding Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte. Honor Ken Lambla as he retires as the founding Dean the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte. To date, has been raised from donations. Mark Colone A group of alumni and community leaders came together in November 2018, to honor Ken Lambla for his work as a long-time faculty member and former Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture. The group made contributions to endow a scholarship in Ken's name and hope to gain additional support so that up to two additional annual awards can be made. Ken Lambla, AIA, is the founding Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte, where he began his faculty appointment in 1983. He led the COA+A for a decade before stepping down as Dean in December 2018. His career in both education and practice is focused on architecture and the arts as forms of community development and advocacy for social responsibility, craft, and innovation. Lambla has taught nationally and internationally in architectural design, design processes, creative leadership, and social histories connecting art, design, and visual and performing arts as critical to cultural representation.His work as an architect and urban designer and his research has focused on social histories of housing projects as well as educational and institutional projects. In Charlotte, he has served on the National Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the McColl Center for Visual Art, the Historical Elizabeth Neighborhood Foundation, Charlotte Ballet, and has worked on projects with the Mint Museum, the ASC Task Force for Spirit Square, the Levine Museum of the New South, Charlotte Teachers Institute, and the First Ward and Irwin Open Elementary Schools. In 2012, Ken helped produce Violins of Hope, a cross-community cultural project focused on the North American premiere exhibition of violins played in Holocaust concentration camps. Help outfit UNC Charlotte's Corporal Robert Qutub USMC Veterans Lounge with technology upgrades this #GivingTuesday. The Corporal Robert Qutub USMC Veterans Lounge provides a study space as well as a common space for student veterans to gather together. Named in honor of Robert “Bob” Qutub (’88), a generous supporter of a variety of campus initiatives, the lounge serves UNC Charlotte's student veterans while they earn their undergraduate or graduate degrees. By providing technology upgrades, including a new printer (like the one below), you can enable UNC Charlotte’s student veterans to most effectively make use of this innovative space. Please support this special project to help UNC Charlotte's student veterans achieve their educational goals by giving back to those who have served our country. About Veterans Services: UNC Charlotte’s Veterans Services Office is dedicated to the support and success of our military affiliated student body. The Men's and Women's Rugby Club Teams are raising funds to purchase a new scrummaging machine to use at practice to improve the strength & skills of players. Men's Rugby and Women's Rugby After an amazing 7's season with a final record of 17-1, the Men's Rugby Club earned a bid to the 2019 Collegiate Men's Division 2 Nationals in Tucson, AZ! It will be held May 24th-25th and we are looking to raise funds to support our travel and stay out west. The UNC Charlotte Men's Rugby club has been to the playoffs the past 7 seasons and earned the highest recognition possible in our division last year of National Champions. We are looking to bring home the gold again and continue to gain national recognition for our club and our school and it's possible with your help! After an outstanding campaign to help fund our new scrum sled last fall, we need your support to raise $8,000 dollars to cover our flight and hotel costs. Every donation helps! Please make a gift today, of any size, to help the UNC Charlotte Rugby Club be able to attend Nationals and continue to compete for the 49ers! This past fall, the UNC Charlotte Men's Rugby Club and Women's Rugby Club needed your support. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, the two teams raised money together to purchase a new scrummaging machine which has been used at practice to improve the strength & skills of players. Thank you to everyone who helped the clubs reach the fundraising goal! A scrummaging machine is a padded piece of equipment that a group of forwards push against during practice. The purpose of the machine is to help players enhance their technique and strength. The UNC Charlotte Men's Rugby Club was founded in 1989 and has become one of the most successful D2 rugby programs in the nation. It is one of the oldest club teams at Charlotte and boasts a long history of success. In both the 2017 and 2018 season, the 49ers were the only team in the Carolinas to qualify for the USA Rugby National Championships in both 15's and 7's, finishing as the national 7’s runner-up in 2017 and National Champions in 2018. The UNC Charlotte Women's Rugby Club strives to bring a strong team by encouraging leadership and having fun. The Women's Club team gives back to the community while promoting the sport of rugby and representing UNC Charlotte in a respectful and positive way. The team is ranked nationally in the Top 8 Women's D2 collegiate teams for 2017-2018. They have won the conference championship in the last 2 years and have been invited to the regional championships for the past 3 years. This year the Women's Rugby Club team is looking for a bid to Nationals.

Harish Amatya The Sports Analytics Club at UNC Charlotte has partnered with the UNC Charlotte Footbal Team for Fall 2018 to test fitness of the players and help prevent injuries. In Spring 2018, the Sports Analytics Club worked with the UNC Charlotte 49ers Baseball team to conduct analytics on players' work outs and performance metrics. The UNC Charlotte 49ers Football Team is a new partner this semester. The project requires us to collect the data first by going to every practice and games. We would watch each player and track data such as sprint speed, total distance covered, rest time, heart rate, stress levels, etc. We would then analyze the data to tailor the weekly workouts and practices so players are at their peak to perform before games and prevent injuries. Students within the Sports Analytics Club have busy schedules and are not able to attend every practice or game this season. It is also difficult to collect accurate data without having any technology. In hopes to collect data, the Sports Analytics Club is raising money to purchase devices that will accurately track fitness data. With your support, the Sports Analytics Club at UNC Charlotte will be able to purchase GPS tracking devices, such as the one here. We also were able to successfully deploy our UAV and deliver the beacon to the Future Excursion Area! Thank you to everyone who supported us during our crowdfunding campaign, Dr. Jerry Dahlberg, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, The William States Lee College of Engineering, NC Space Grant, Solidworks, Mechanix Wear, friends, and family for everything this year! We brought home the First Place Safety Award, First Place Experiment Design (Payload) Award, Second Place Project Review (Documentation) Award, Third Place STEM Engagement Award, and a Third Place tie for Best Looking Rocket! Competition Awards from April 6th, 2019 We are a team of engineering students at UNC Charlotte who are entering this year’s NASA Student Launch Competition. This is a rigorous and fiercely competitive challenge to design, build, and fly a high powered rocket to complete a mission designed by NASA. In total, seven teams from UNC Charlotte have competed in this prestigious challenge, beating teams from MIT, NC State, the Naval Academy and other veteran aerospace schools. A history of success for the 49er Rocketry Team The last three teams to compete from UNC Charlotte placed in the top five overall. We intend to carry UNC Charlotte’s venerable reputation and tradition of excellence into this year’s competition. 2018-19 49er Rocketry Team We are currently designing a rocket that will carry a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to an altitude of 4000-5500 feet and return to the earth unharmed. Upon landing, the UAV will be deployed and will autonomously fly to a NASA-specified location to deliver a simulated navigational beacon. To meet these requirements, we will be designing a deployment mechanism that will allow the UAV to be safely started and flown without a rocket airframe interference. In order to be successful, we need your help! The development of a system that will be competitive is costly and we will be up against teams with well-funded aerospace programs. Between the development budget of the vehicle and payload, as well as our travel expenses to attend the competition in Huntsville, AL, our total anticipated budget is nearly $21,000! Each year the UNC Charlotte Formula SAE Team designs, manufactures, fabricates, tests, and competes in a Formula Style race car. A team of engineering and like-minded students collaborate to build the FSAE car from scratch and develop the performance of the vehicle to be competitive at 2 biannual worldwide SAE sanctioned competitions, FSAE Lincoln, and FSAE Michigan. We also compete in a number of regional FSAE and autocross events to keep our skills sharp and develop the performance of the race car. About Formula SAE® Series In 1981, SAE International (formerly known as Society of Automotive Engineers) developed and managed the first Formula SAE® (FSAE®) student competition with assistance of Ron Matthews, Professor at University of Texas. SAE International operated the only Formula SAE competition for 17 years before its partnership with IMeche (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) in England where the brand “Formula Student” was developed. Since its inception, Formula SAE has expanded and includes many spin off events. In the United States there are two competitions managed by SAE International. Internationally, the expansion of Formula SAE/Formula Student has exploded to over 20 competitions currently hosted by engineering societies or private business. The SAE International Formula SAE program is an engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate students. The competition provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their engineering design and project management skills by applying learned classroom theories in a challenging competition. The engineering design goal for teams is to develop and construct a single-seat race car for the non-professional weekend autocross racer with the best overall package of design, construction, performance and cost. ​The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style racecar. The prototype racecar is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the racecar is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving. The vehicle will be inspected in a series of tests to ensure it complies with the competition rules; in addition, the vehicle with driver will be judged in many performance tests on track. The rest of the judging is completed by experts from motorsports, automotive, aerospace and supplier industries on student design, cost and sales presentations. Formula SAE promotes careers and excellence in engineering as it encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management and finances. The initiative hosts myriad of opportunities to empower undergraduate students to achieve personal and professional goals and enter confidently into the business marketplace. Each fall, the initiative accepts applications for students to attend an exclusive retreat to build fundamental skills and in-depth learning for students. You can make a difference for Women in Business today. This project is significant to help ensure the future growth and development of the Women in Business Initiative, as well as to increase awareness about the initiative and the impacts it has on business students. Participation in the retreat will help students to uncover challenges and techniques to overcome challenges. Second, the retreat will help to increase students’ confidence to interact in professional settings, prepare for business roles, build relationships and to further their growth. This project will impact the surrounding community by helping to develop talent for the Charlotte region that is prepared to confidently enter the business world. The retreat helps develop well-trained and prepared candidates for internships and jobs, which connects to economic development of the region. At the retreat, students learn about risk taking, teamwork, and building confidence through activities, including speakers and a high-ropes course. Sigma Tau Delta The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), which is one of the oldest ongoing chapters in the national society, sponsors social, intellectual, and scholarly activities on campus throughout the year. Last year, Sigma Tau Delta began sending students to the national convention, where students present papers, participate in roundtables, or read their creative work. This year, six students, who have created two roundtables, have been accepted as speakers by the national organization. The topics of the roundtables are timely and significant. The first addresses the impact of DACA in American culture, and the second explores Human Sex Trafficking, a clearly important issue, but especially resonant in the city of Charlotte. The National Sigma Tau Delta Convention will be in Cincinnati, Ohio in April 2018. Sigma Tau Delta is crowdfunding this spring to raise awareness and support of our trip to the National Convention. Funding will help cover the costs for these six students’ registration, travel, and accommodations.

Support this music scholarship to leave a lasting legacy in Greg's honor. Dr. Jay Grymes Greg Underwood joined UNC Charlotte as Staff Accompanist in 1995. Over the next two decades, Greg left indelible marks on virtually every music student by accompanying countless choir concerts, opera productions, and degree recitals on piano, organ, harpsichord, and percussion. Health issues forced him to step away from the university in 2015, and he passed away on December 29, 2017. “Greg will be remembered for his quick intellect and his dry wit, as well as his passion for music, his talent as a pianist, and his dedication to our department,” says music department chair James A. Grymes. “In my fifteen years at UNC Charlotte, there is nobody who was more beloved by our faculty, staff, and students. Help us Honor Casey Jay Blackwelder Casey Blackwedler was a 24 year-old trumpeter and a 2017 graduate of UNC Charlotte. Help us honor Casey's legacy with a scholarship in his name. Your gift in Casey's memory will help us share his enthusiasm for music and life with other Niners pursuing a music degree. Excerpt below is taken from The BleuzLetter. Casey Backwelder was a man that was well known and will never be forgotten. He gave his all to those that he loved and would strive to be the best version of himself. In just twenty-four years, Casey's life was packed with cinematic stories and rich with heart-warming fulfillment. Casey was a goofball, a hard worker, a disciplined student, and (most importantly) a selfless human being. His infectious personality was worked into the DNA of every person who shared an interaction with him. The 24 year old trumpeter was a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2017). Upon achieving a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Casey's plan was to make a humble, yet significant contribution with his music, specifically to the world of Jazz. The freedom of improvisation spiked his interest in such a way that he spent hours on end practicing to play the right notes over any given chord at any given tempo. Although there were a number of rehearsals that left him frustrated, he was never defeated. His maturation as a musician was showcased at every performance. His concerts and recitals leading up to graduation proved him to be proficient. He was a musician who had the support of his family, hometown, colleagues, and professors all at once. Everyone rooted for Casey Blackwelder. The gentle giant celebrated his birthday on June 18 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville, North Carolina, where he served as the Minister of Music for the past three years. The entire church come synchronized in singing him 'Happy Birthday'. Later that night, Casey passed away from a heart attack. To the musicians, remember Casey by adopting his habits. Be intentional with your practice. Be dedicated to your plan. Be committed to the fact that your art is bigger than you. Honor Casey by improving in all aspects. Remember him by remaining a student. To everyone, life is too short to waste time. Be sure to document your memories, make decisions that you won't regret later on, but live in the moment as well. Be a goofball, work hard, study diligently, be selfless. Be like Casey Blackwelder.

Traditional prostheses can cost upwards of thousands of dollars. When children outgrow their prostheses, they require new ones. Many simply go without needed prostheses due to the cost. The Helping Hand Project uses forward thinking and innovative technologies to provide useful prosthetic devices to those that are financially and medically in need. The Helping Hand Project needs your help to extend our reach to more children with limb differences. With your donation, we will be able to expand our reach to K-12 schools, provide support to the families of our recipients, promote STEM education and deliver prosthetic devices to thousands of children around the world. ​While the average cost for the material and printing of a fully functioning prosthetic device can be under $20, it often takes our members weeks/months to successfully print and assemble a device using our limited resources and workforce. This project will create a new planting of native and underutilized fruits in the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. Jeff Gillman The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens hope to transform a corner of the gardens into an orchard for Native and Underused Fruits of North Carolina. There are a wide variety of useful fruits appropriate for planting in the North Carolina Piedmont that are largely ignored by nurseries and the public. From pawpaws and maypops to scuppernongs and mayapples, this planting will educate people about these fruits and encourage their use in the landscapes of Charlotte and surrounding regions. The goal of this planting is to get people to understand the great diversity of food types that may be available in this region with just a little bit of work. With your support, the Botanical Gardens will be able to purchase materials to build the Native and Underused Fruits portion of the garden. A gift of any amount would help offset the costs for the needed stones, trees, mulch, and labor for this kind of hard-scaping. The Native and Underused Fruits garden will be seen by all 40,000 of the annual visitors. This planting will be both educational and spiritually satisfying for the University and Charlotte community as it inspires the use of different plant materials in and around homes and gardens.

Let the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band help you honor your military veteran during the D-Day event in Normandy, France. The UNC Charlotte “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band has been selected as the official band to represent the United States in Normandy, France, in June 2018. The performance will mark the 74th anniversary of D-Day. Each year, one band is chosen to represent the U.S. at the D-Day commemoration. The honor was historically reserved for official military bands, but in recent years has been assigned to university marching bands of distinction. This is your opportunity to honor your military veteran during this event by one of the following programs: “Pride of Niner Nation” American Flag Program Let the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band help you honor your military veteran by placing two American flags in his or her memory. A small flag will be placed at the Johnson Band Center the day the group leaves for Normandy, France and a larger flag will be placed on the graves of American soldiers in the Normandy American Cemetery. A member of the band will also announce the name of your loved one while visiting the cemetery. The cost for the two flags is $49. “Pride of Niner Nation” Sash Program Let the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band help you honor your military veteran with a specially designed sash, which will include his or her name and branch of service*. A member of the band will proudly wear the sash at each performance while in France. The cost of the sash is $149. For those who purchase a sash, you and your family members will be presented with your ceremonial sash(es) during a Wind Ensemble performance at the University's Anne R. Belk Theater in the fall of 2018. Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) strengthens teaching and learning in local public schools. Scott Gartlan Charlotte Teachers Institute (CTI) provides content-rich professional-development seminars for pre-K through 12th-grade teachers (called "Fellows") in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Led by UNC Charlotte and Davidson College professors, the seminars help about 100 teachers per year to write new curricula by December and then to teach students with it the following spring. These seven-month fellowships engage teachers over a sustained duration, an essential element in effective professional development. This project will provide support for teachers to implement their CTI-generated curricula. A big obstacle to getting these new ideas to students is limited resources, with teachers spending about $500 of their own money on supplies for their classrooms each year. Help engineering students design, build, and fly a high-powered rocket to compete for the NASA Student Launch Competition. We are a team of engineering students at UNC Charlotte who are entering this year’s NASA Student Launch Competition. This is a rigorous and fiercely competitive challenge to design, build, and fly a high powered rocket to complete a mission designed by NASA. In total, seven teams from UNC Charlotte have competed in this prestigious challenge, beating teams from MIT, NC State, the Naval Academy and other veteran aerospace schools. The last two teams to compete from UNC Charlotte placed in the top five overall. We intend to carry UNC Charlotte’s venerable reputation and tradition of excellence into this year’s competition. We are currently designing a rocket that will carry an autonomous rover to an altitude of 1 mile and back to earth unharmed. Upon landing the rover must deploy from the payload bay, travel 5 feet from the landing site, and then deploy a foldable solar panel array. To meet these requirements, we are housing the rover in a rotating bay that will orient the rover before deployment, then guide the rover out of the housing. In order to do be successful, we need your help! The development of a system that can compete against well-established and better-funded schools will be expensive. We anticipate needing a development budget of $12,000 for the vehicles and payloads. This does not include the expense of getting this year’s team to Huntsville, AL to attend the competition. Our total anticipated budget for this competition will be nearly $20,000! To carry our passion and ambitions into the community, our team will also be conducting numerous outreach events at local schools to help nurture K-12 student’s curiosities in the STEM field. Our goal is to reach over 600 students over the course of the competition. Help the UNC Charlotte VOE choir embark on an out-of-state tour to spread the gospel while representing the University outside of campus. The Voices of Eden Gospel Choir was founded as a student organization at UNC Charlotte in spring 2005, with a purpose to inspire and uplift the campus community through the gift of music. Since it’s founding it has gone on to make an indelible mark on the UNCC community, the city of Charlotte, and abroad. Every semester the choir embarks on an out-of-state tour to further our reach in spreading the gospel, as well as introducing people who may have otherwise never heard of UNC Charlotte to the University and its broad diversity of programs. The tour serves as the highlight of each member’s semester, and is the culmination of months of hard work and preparation. We sing at various churches in each city we visit, take in cultural sites and attractions, and even do joint concerts with other collegiate gospel choirs while strengthening our collective bond. Through this campaign, we are asking for your help in offsetting our tour budget, which can often run upwards of $10,000 per semester. In the past, the funds were largely covered by contributions from each member, which in an uncertain economic climate and the increasing costs of education, can sometimes be a burden to those of limited means. The choir opened up for international gospel recording legend Yolanda Adams at the 2009 CIAA Gospel Explosion in Charlotte, and has also opened up for gospel artist Tye Tribbett on two separate occasions. In 2015, the choir sang background for world-famous songwriter and performer Barry Manilow during the finale of the Charlotte stop of his “One Last Time” tour. Over the years, Voices of Eden has done tours to Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia; Greenville, Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina; Huntsville, Mobile and Millbrook, Alabama; Jacksonville, Orlando, Plant City and Daytona Beach, Florida; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; Winston-Salem, Rocky Mount, Asheville, Raleigh, Durham and New Hill, North Carolina; Norfolk and Suffolk, Virginia; Bridgeport, Connecticut; Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; New Orleans, Louisiana; Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee; Washington, D.C. and New York City. Support the Niner Student Food Pantry to help them obtain new kitchen appliances and expand their inventory. The Niner Student Pantry at UNC Charlotte was conceived by a team of faculty and students. Established in the fall of 2014, the mission of the Niner Student Pantry is to ensure food security, human dignity, and well-being on campus by providing in-need UNC Charlotte students with healthy, culturally appropriate emergency food. Among factors driving the need for food assistance are: decline in government assistance/benefits/grants, fallout from the recent recession and declining real wages. Most recently, the Niner Student Pantry moved to a 1968, single-family home. The home is a perfect space for the Niner Student Pantry as it allows us to expand our inventory of food, provides privacy among our clients and we now have a kitchen. The kitchen has appliances that are no longer functional. Funds will provide the Niner Student Pantry with new energy efficient appliances, including a refrigerator, freezer, stove, microwave, and additional supplies. These appliances will allow us to serve more clients. Moreover, these items will allow us store much needed poultry, fruits and vegetables, but also allow us to perform cooking demonstrations for the clients in which we serve. By performing these cooking demonstrations, we are educating our clients and our campus community on the importance of eating healthy food and meal options they can prepare with the food provided. Last year, we served over 825 clients and we hope to serve so much more! Please consider helping our students in need. Part of the mission of UNC Charlotte’s Graduate Life Fellows is to build connections across disciplines within UNC Charlotte and the surrounding community. We realize that whether we are isolated in our specific programs, or already working as alumni in the community, it can be easy to forget all that it took for us to get to where we are today. We take for granted the pens, the paper, the backpacks and the role models that made it possible to move on to higher education here at UNC Charlotte and beyond. UNC Charlotte's Got Your Back aims to unite UNC Charlotte students as well as alumni in raising money for school supplies for underprivileged children right here in our community. Through this cause, we aim to provide these students with not only the tools needed to be successful in the classroom, but the exposure to real students in higher education, their stories and reasons to never give up on their dreams. Astrobotics UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our initial goal of $2,000. We are now working to reach our stretch goal of $2,500 to help us get to the Kennedy Space Center. UNC Charlotte's Astrobotics team is a group of 8 multi-disciplinary engineering students who will be competing in this year’s NASA Robotic Mining Competition at the Kennedy Space Center. Recently, NASA discovered large amounts of water in the form of ice and hydrated mineral known as basaltic regolith on Mars. NASA’s main goal is to capture samples of the basaltic regolith and ice to insure Mars is a suitable environment for human existence. Due to the ambiguity, NASA has launched the Robotic Mining Competition to challenge college students on their creativity and innovative ideas. This year’s competition objective is to design and build a completely autonomous robot that can traverse the simulated Martian chaotic terrain, excavate, store and deposit collected basaltic regolith simulant (Black Point-1/BP-1) and ice simulant (gravel) into a collector bin successfully. We are ecstatic to demonstrate our eminent engineering skills but also to educate K-12 students on the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) fields. Knowing that only 20% students entering college feel prepared in STEM studies, we decided to make a difference in our community. We hope to reach our goal of $2,500 to help cover our team purchase robot parts, cover travel expenses, and educate the next generation of robotic engineers. Support UNC Charlotte students in their effort to build Habitat for Humanity homes in El Salvador. Habitat El Salvador UNC Charlotte students will be traveling to El Salvador for 10 days this May. This program offers an opportunity for students to build homes side-by-side with Salvadorian families, learning about their culture and lives.The program integrates the sociological study of religion and movements for social justice with hands-on experience building affordable housing. This is a service-learning course which connects volunteer work with academic course content designed to develop deep understanding of complex social problems. Led by Dr. Scott Fitzgerald of the Department of Sociology and Sean Langley of the Dean of Students Office, this program is a collaboration between the UNC Charlotte Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Campus Chapter, the local Charlotte affiliate of HFH, and HFH El Salvador. On average, a single-family home in El Salvador costs about $7,000. Modest by American standards, the home consists of two to three rooms with simple electrical and plumbing systems. For families earning only $6.25 to $25 a day, this is a home of infinite value and opportunity. Each house allows families to move out of mud, cardboard, or tin shanties and into decent, affordable homes that are built to keep them safe during El Salvador’s frequent earthquakes and inclement weather. Please help these students gain international experience and learn important skills while building homes in El Salvador.

The cargo bay will actively dampen flight impulses to protect the payload throughout the flight profile. Upon descent, the payload section will deploy landing legs in an effort to land vertically. Our rocket will transmit a live stream of impact data in order to monitor the fragile payload in real time and verify our successes during flight. To carry our passion and ambitions into the community, our team will be conducting numerous outreach events to local schools to help nurture K-12 student’s curiosities into the STEM field. In order to get there they need assistance in raising funds to cover travel and lodging costs that can end up costing us thousands of dollars. Help 49er engineering students compete at the SAE International sanctioned collegiate Baja competition. Caleb Allen UNC Charlotte Baja SAE allows mechanical engineering students to gain real world experience through a controlled design competition utilizing theory learned in the classroom. Each year, the team builds a car within given technical specifications by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Our team is also working on improving the suspension system for the current car. We are implementing a data acquisition system to read and record values from shock pressure sensors, accelerometers, and GPS loggers. The driver will also be able to adjust the shock pressures through a controlled air system. With this project, coupled with building a new car, the team is busy and ready to do UNC Charlotte proud! This year’s team is anchored by two senior design groups. Senior Design 2 (May graduates) is led by Caleb Allen and includes Cameron Baker, Josh Bussiere, Jerry Dsouza, Roberto Garcia, Dan Garver, CJ Hall, and Aedan McHugh. Senior Design 1 (December graduates) is led by Dustin Dunn and includes Joshua Baptist, Terrell Britton, and Kenneth Hitt. Education Germany Study Abroad A cohort from the elementary education program will be traveling to Germany during the Fall 2016 semester for five weeks. We will be attending Pädagogische Hochschule Ludwigsburg while we are there. We will also be given the opportunity to go on excursions to Augsburg, Munich, Garmisch, Füssen, Newschwanstein Castle, Zugzpitze, Bavarian Region, Dachau, Jurassic Park, etc. Our cohort will be teaming up with the students from the education program at Pädoagogische Hochschule Ludwigsburg to discuss issues about education around the world and to provide solutions. We will be leaving October 4th and returning November 7th. Once we return, the donations will be divided among the students to help out with expenses from throughout the trip. DID YOU KNOW? Not only will your donations help us during these five weeks, we will also be setting aside a pool of money for the future cohorts that will be traveling to Germany as well.

The team is comprised of 21 dancers ages 18-22. The Gold Dusters perform at all of the UNC Charlotte sporting events and make special appearances across the city of Charlotte. We ask for your support in our journey to the Collegiate National competition held in Daytona Beach, Florida. In spring of 2017, we placed third in the nation with our hip-hop routine. The Gold Reel Student Film Festival is a celebration of student filmmaking and the art of cinema presented by the Film Club at UNC Charlotte. UNC Charlotte Film Club The UNC Charlotte Film Club plans to host our 5th Annual Gold Reel Student Film Festival this April to celebrate student filmmaking. Our goal is to recognize the talents of student filmmakers by displaying their short films and screenplays for a community of diverse artists, film enthusiasts, and fellow students. The Gold Reel Student Film Festival is unique as an international film festival created and run by UNC Charlotte students. Entering our fifth year, the Gold Reel Festival's reach and impact has grown and called attention to the individual student filmmakers as well as the Film Studies program at UNC Charlotte. The quality of the films featured in the festival, along with the quality of the overall event, is a powerful example of what can be accomplished by the students at UNC Charlotte. Attracting submissions from students from 19 countries, the Gold Reel Festival still managed to feature a number of filmmakers from UNC Charlotte and other area universities. The Gold Reel Student Film Festival has proven itself to be a fantastic ambassador to the community, national and international colleges and students.

Help engineering students build a hydrogen electric train and participate in the Europe Rail Challenge UNC Charlotte students are crowdfunding to create from scratch a hydrogen electric train and participate in the Europe Rail Challenge. To develop the hydrogen rail (hydrail) technology, UNC Charlotte has teamed up with the University of Birmingham, UK, to work on a ridable park-gauge train as a technology demonstration. For the past four years, students have traveled from Charlotte to England to participate in a Europe Rail Challenge event. Alternate propulsion technologies that result in reduced air pollution from rail propulsion power units are an emerging area of research. In the United States, a majority of locomotives operate using diesel-electric engines which result in significant air pollution. Since current resolutions to the pollution dilemma are untenably expensive or disruptive, UNC Charlotte has been exploring the development of hydrogen-fuel cell technologies for power supply to electric locomotives. Your support to the Green Energy Train will help provide the necessary funds to purchase materials needed in building this hydrogen electric train. Intercollegiate Mediation Tournament Each year UNC Charlotte undergraduates who are enrolled in the Mediation and Conflict Resolution class compete successfully in regional (and national, when near) Intercollegiate Mock Mediation Tournaments. Students develop and apply practical skills that transfer to "real-life" scenarios they will face as professionals. Experienced mediators as judges critique their skills and give practical feedback. These diverse students challenge teams from other colleges and universities, and their success raises UNC Charlotte's visibility. The Crowdfunding project will help fund student travel and registration to the regional and national Intercollegiate Mediation Tournaments. As a means to connect past UNC Charlotte tournament participants (now alumni) with the students competing in the 2017 tournaments, we plan to add a social/networking/information meeting between these two groups of past and current participants,and include professional mediators who volunteer to help coach the students. "Currently as a legal professional in Mecklenburg County and adjunct professor, but also as a UNC Charlotte alumnus, I am proud that UNC Charlotte students are learning mediation skills that are critical for their professional and personal lives." - Toussaint Romain '01 The Mediation and Conflict Resolution course is an important skills area for the new Legal Studies minor. The new interdisciplinary Legal Studies minor gives students access to theoretical and skills courses, and fosters critical thinking and other transferable skills. This broad base of knowledge about law-related topics better positions students for employment in governmental and nonprofit agencies, as well as business, where legal knowledge is beneficial.

This is the 28th consecutive year of the Spanish Language and Culture in Costa Rica program at UNC Charlotte! Help our students gain linguistic and cultural competency as they study abroad for a month in the capital city of San José. During the program, students attend language classes for four hours per day and go on cultural excursions to museums, markets, national parks, and more. All activities are conducted in Spanish. Students also stay with local host families to further the immersion experience. They will also be visiting a local orphanage this year to care for the children, practice their Spanish, and donate much-needed materials. The Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band took the field in Fall 2015, making history by unveiling a pre-game show unique to UNC Charlotte and a series of half-time performances designed to excite the entire Niner Nation. The band performs throughout each game, leading the crowd in cheers for crucial plays and in the fight song after every touchdown. And, of course, win or lose, the band leads the players, cheerleaders, and faithful fans in the UNC Charlotte Alma Mater at the conclusion of every home game. Unlike in high school, students in the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band will not be asked to fund their own participation. Instead, we are asking the Niner Nation community to support them through financial contributions. ADDITIONAL UNIFORMS The band is in need of several full uniforms in varying sizes! As a new marching band program it was difficult to know exactly what size uniforms to order, which has led to a shortage of uniforms in the sizes needed for current students. The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), has successfully attended the Sigma Tau Delta National Convention in March 2019. Money raised today will help the student group be able to attend next year's conference! Sigma Tau Delta The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), one of the oldest and most prestigious ongoing chapters in the nation, sponsors social, intellectual, and scholarly activities on campus throughout the year. For the last two years, Sigma Tau Delta has been able to send students to the national convention, where students present papers, participate in roundtables, or read their creative work. This year, 10 students, who have created scholarly sessions in keeping with the theme of the convention will contribute their research to the conference. The first session, The Technological Landscape: Grounds for Change, examines the “migration” of literature through digital technologies, and the second, Evolving Literature: Effects of Immigration on Literature, explores the ways in which ideas of immigration and diversity have helped form new and robust approached in 21st century literature. Our students have been volunteering in literary events across campus, as well as creating new and original activities to work with children at the Levine wing of Atrium Health. They have also been fundraising on campus with activities like the very successful “Blind Date with a Book.” First planning session of the year Still, it will take additional resources to send all 10 participants to the convention. For that reason, Sigma Tau Delta is crowdfunding this spring to raise awareness and support of our trip to the International Convention. Funding will help cover the costs for these 10 students’ registration, travel, and accommodations. To date, has been raised from gifts. Roy Fielding has been a fixture at UNC Charlotte since 1977. He served as Kinesiology Department Chair, Aquatics Director and Senior Lecturer during his 41 year career with the university. The university's Belk Gym Pool was just named "The Roy R. Fielding Aquatic Center" in honor of his lifetime service. He also served as head coach of the 49ers men's and women's swimming and diving teams from 1989-1992. He was named Atlantic Swim Conference Men's and Women's Coach of the Year in 1990 and was the Southern States Women's Coach of the Year in 1992. Roy was recently named one of the most influential individuals in aquatics in the United States by Aquatics International Magazine in its Power 25. Roy is a member of the University of Northern Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame for swimming and also the School of Health, Physical Education, and Leisure Studies Hall of Excellence. Fielding continued to support the 49ers following his stint as head coach and was a valuable resource for the athletics department and the university throughout his long standing tenure. Last October Roy and his wife Mary Gaye established the Mary Gaye & Roy Fielding Athletics Development Fund and the Roy and Mary Gaye Fielding Scholarship for Kinesiology students to benefit future generations of Charlotte 49ers student-athletes and students involved with 49er Athletics. "Roy was a huge fan and supporter of Charlotte 49ers Athletics," said Mike Hummer, Executive Director of the 49ers' Athletic Foundation. "Roy will be thoroughly missed by all of us with the Charlotte 49ers who were lucky enough to call him a friend. Our heart breaks for the loss of Roy and our thoughts and prayers are with Mary Gaye and the entire Fielding family." Niner University Elementary Niner University Elementary (NUE) at Amay James is a public school created and led by education experts at UNC Charlotte. In the face of challenges posed by opening an elementary school in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, NUE is responding with optimism but needs community support since unexpectedly forced to open this fall with fully remote learning. “Opening NUE has been a labor of love, years in the making. While we know we’ll need to be flexible during the coming year, we’re thrilled to welcome our students and families and begin our journey as part of this community,” said Pamela Broome, principal of NUE. Help NUE meet the urgent and unforeseen needs of remote learning. Currently, there are six families that cannot access the internet to complete assignments via remote instruction. Your support can help provide the following needs: basic school supplies for students to do hands-on learning while following teacher lessons; in-home play therapy to reduce the stress of learning in a home environment, and internet access for these families. Making a donation today will help these young students have the resources they need to learn right away. Interns from the UNC Charlotte school counseling program will provide telemental health services to support students throughout the year. NUE has hired a social worker and UNC Charlotte social work intern as well as a school guidance counselor to support students and families. NUE will ultimately provide UNC Charlotte’s Cato College of Education the opportunity to train teachers, counselors and school leaders. Teacher preparation and development at NUE will be centered on embedded, multi-semester clinicals for teachers in training. The UNC Charlotte Men's Lacrosse Club team serves the opportunity for 40-50 students to come together and play competitive lacrosse. Since 2022 we have been 3x conference champions in the ALC conference and have made an appearance in the MCLA National tournament every year. In our most recent appearance we placed as the #9 seed after a massive regular season upset against the #2 seed. Our goal is to make it to the national championship tournament again, but we need your financial support to achieve that goal. ALC Tournament Champions 2023 The purpose of the club is to provide a place for 49er students wishing to continue playing competitive lacrosse at the collegiate level. The team runs mostly out of students' own pockets which requires a high level of commitment from our players. Since the club team is self-funded, we are in need of your help. Help Club Softball with equipment, rental costs, travel, and so much more! Support Club Softball! To date, has been raised from gifts. We are the UNC Charlotte Club Softball team. As a student-led club, our team aims to provide a space to play softball at a national club collegiate level and provide learning opportunities for new members who have shown interest in our sport. We are a part of the National Club Softball Association (NCSA) DII program, where we compete against other universities, such as Elon, Wake Forest, and High Point, in series throughout the entire school year. We travel to other universities as well as host teams. One accomplishment from this past semester was getting some new wins while participating in a new division! Not only do we focus on improving our physical softball skills, but we also put an emphasis on building players' softball IQs, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. We collaborate with other sports clubs to build relationships, learn new sports outside of our own, and volunteer our time to help other clubs have successful & meaningful events. We also can’t thrive without player dues and donations. During home series, we play a total of 2 games, and each home series can cost up to $800. We are one of the few club sports who must play off-campus. Thus, our dues and donations go towards renting a local field complex (Mint Hill Sports Complex), umpires, travel costs into playing our league games, and proper equipment. Wayne Maikranz R.I.P, Sept. 4, 1960 - Sept. 27, 2023 (Wayne's Obituary) What an honor, and a humbling experience, to find that a group of my Student Niner Media alumni family chose to create a leadership award in my name. I am so moved. This is a great way to recognize new Niner Media members who excel as editors and managers. Even after all these years, we find ways to reconnect and share a laugh. I know we will all have our own "media family." - Wayne Maikranz, February 20, 2019 Wayne Maikranz guided and directed the Student Niner Media Department in 1986, and it has grown exponentially. He retired in December, 2019. The award given in his honor will benefit current UNC Charlotte students who work in a student media leadership or editorial position. It was established by alumni Brent Sparks, Melissa (Manware) Treadaway, Joe Posnanski, George Swygert, and, Tracey Burnette, and Mike Burnette. Wayne influenced, taught, inspired, and encouraged students for over three decades. When he first arrived, columns of type were printed and manually affixed on the page with melted wax. He shepherded that fledgling program into digital production and through the New Media sea-change that moved journalism online. From points to pixels, Wayne was the keystone of a student media program that continues to be nationally recognized for excellence. Jim Hoppa, retired Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, said he was astounded by the awards that UNC Charlotte student media would bring back to campus. “Here we were going against [UNC Chapel Hill] and other big universities with acclaimed journalism schools, and yet we were often winning against them! Wayne had a knack for finding, recruiting, and developing students from a variety of majors..." The Wayne Maikranz Student Media Leadership Award will provide a scholarship to at least one student media member each year. Please join us in helping to honor the genuine bonds Wayne forged with students, the careers he helped launch, and his dedication to UNC Charlotte.

Skyrise is the men's ultimate Frisbee team for UNC Charlotte. Starting just over a decade ago in 2012, this team has always been built on the connections between our players. Because of our continued dedication to ourselves and the betterment of the program, we have made steady progress and improvements year in and year out to establish ourselves as nationally competitive. Our team not only pushes players to be the best versions of themselves physically but also to provide a brotherhood and bond that follows us far beyond college. Our strong connection with the alumni of this program is a testament to the integrity and quality that Skyrise is built on. As we push to recapture and surpass our successes of last year, we face numerous challenges such as the difficulties in competition and the cost of our tournaments. On the surface, your support may only seem like a monetary donation, but with every $10, we can replace our worn practice discs with new ones. With every $25, we can send one of our players to sectionals. And with every $50, we would be able to send a player to regionals. A contribution of $75 dollars will cover one players USA Ultimate membership. Each bit of support is invested into the continued growth of our team and our players. Our number one goal as a program is to cultivate a close knit, thriving community. This was what our aim was way back in 2012, and it will continue to be our mission in the future. We first made the transition from a band of friends to a competitive and focused team in 2015. Back then we were known as “Pan-Handle” and we're among the newest teams in the region. After years of both personal and collective growth, in spring of 2017, we were able to make our first push into regionals, a tournament that on the top 16 teams along the Mid-Atlantic region are invited to. Since that first appearance 8 years ago, we have missed regionals only once, and currently we are continuing a streak of 5 straight appearances. In the years following covid, we have only continued to grow, making a name for ourselves on the national stage. In 2023, we finished our season being ranked 17 in the country. An impressive feat on its own, but it also has been the best season performance by our team so far. Then just last year we place 3rd at regionals, yet another team best. Now as we move into the 2025 season, we have our sight set on surpassing these achievements, and to build upon the Skyrise name. Not only do we focus on improving our physical softball skills, we also put an emphasis on building player’s softball IQs, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. Outside of our softball series we enjoy getting involved with our university and local community. Two volunteer events we have participated in within our community are the Gold Rush 5k on UNC Charlottes campus and the Hot Chocolate 5k that takes place in Uptown! We collaborate with other sport clubs to build relationships, learn new sports outside of our own, and volunteer our time to help other clubs have successful & meaningful events. We also can’t thrive without player dues and donations. During home series we play a total of 3 games and each home series costs $1,136.67. Our base field price is $376.67, umpires $480, and mandatory field security is $280. We are one of the few club sports who must play off-campus. Thus, our dues and donations go towards renting a local high school field (Hickory Ridge High School), umpires, travel costs into playing our league games, and proper equipment. Help our team better visibility on the field as we represent UNC Charlotte. Support Club Field Hockey! To date, they have raised from gifts. As Charlotte Club Field Hockey begins its fourth year as a club sport, we are enlisting your help to make this the best season yet! Charlotte has an amazing club sports community, however in recent years the financial compensation for these club sports to be able to carry out their duties has been lacking. Club sports received a total budget this year that was a 40% reduction from last year and therefore Club Field Hockey's budget has been greatly reduced. Club Field Hockey and all club sports are some of the most engaging activities on campus and in the Charlotte community. They heavily promote the involvement of incoming freshmen and the student population. We are determined to keep growing, promoting, and representing the Club Field Hockey team here at Charlotte and we need your help to do it! This spring we have a busy schedule. We will be hosting a total of five different colleges from the east coast here at home to promote field hockey while representing the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We had some major accomplishments and milestones this previous year. Thanks to your previous help, we fundraised for a set of 25 uniforms, we had a 4-3-1 record last year, played nine games, had a team of 19 players, volunteered with the USA National Field Hockey team, and our president Emma Palmer received the "Sport Club Officer of the Year" award out of over 150 club sports officers for the clubs growth and accomplishments. Field Hockey has become an acknowledged sport club on campus and this season will be no different. UNC Charlotte is a part of the National Field Hockey League where we organize and schedule games. When playing in a league we are held to the highest standard of sportsmanship and professionalism. Your donations will help pay for our league fees, expenses for games, travel expenses, and hopefully our spot at regionals and nationals this year! Here is our tentative game schedule for this spring. We could not be more excited to travel to nationals in Virginia Beach and host these games/tournaments. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering's Advisory Board consists of individuals who are respected for their accomplishments in the fields of industry, government, and education. Advisory board members provide advice to the department and faculty to enhance the quality, outreach, and development of the departmental programs. They also assist the Department in developing strategic relationships with the engineering and business community for the creation of new intellectual capital and applied engineering knowledge. The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support to students using criteria developed and agreed upon by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering's Advisory Board in collaboration with the University Scholarship Office. Robert "Rob" Combs, a double alumnus of Charlotte and executive with Duke Energy, introduced the scholarship idea to the ECE Advisory Board, "Our Board is made up of professionals who know the value of an education. And, with so many students in need, we deemed it important to provide scholarship assistance to students in our field. Sigma Tau Delta The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), one of the oldest and most prestigious honor societies in the nation. It sponsors social, intellectual, and scholarly activities on campus throughout the year. For the last three years, our chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, which is celebrating its 40th year, has been able to send students to the national convention, where students present papers, participate in roundtables, or read their creative work. This year, 5 students from UNC Charlotte will present at this year's Sigma Tau Delta conference held in Denver. Their projects range from literary criticism to creative writing endeavors. Our officers have been organizing many exciting literary events on campus to engage students and create a community within the Sigma Tau Delta society. One of these events involves a bake sale combined with a mystery book sale to fundraise for the conference. To celebrate "Black History Month," the students have organized the showing of two movies, Moonlight and Nope, which will both be introduced by a faculty member.Still, it will take additional resources to send all 5 participants to the convention. For that reason, Sigma Tau Delta is crowdfunding this spring to raise awareness and support of our trip to the conference. Funding will help cover the costs for these 5 students’ registration, travel, and accommodations and may support future students if the trip is fully funded. In honor of Broderick Adé Hogue and to carry forward his legacy, his UNC Charlotte family, alumni, faculty, and friends would like to create a scholarship in his name. After discussions with his family and the Adé Hogue Foundation, this award was established by faculty members David Brodeur and Bobby Campbell from the Department of Art & Art History. Their hope is that his legacy will serve as an example and to support students from communities underrepresented in higher education. After graduating from UNC Charlotte in 2012, he moved to Chicago and began an ambitious career as an Art Director, Designer, and Letterer. 2012 BFA Thesis exhibition and Reception While working with an impressive roster of national clients, he quickly established himself as a dynamic talent in lettering design and hand-created type. His work was featured in numerous publications such as Typism and was recognized by professional journals such as Print Magazine. With an energetic and outgoing personality, he also became a sought after speaker and presented at regional and national conferences such as AIGA, AdobeMax, CreativeMornings Chicago, and LetterWest. While he continued to reach new career heights, Adé always made time to connect with communities, share his knowledge, and impact young designers and artists. He taught courses at DePaul University, was a frequent guest of the Graphic Design program at UNC Charlotte, and wielded his virtuosity and growing influence as a voice for social justice. 2018 CoA+A Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony Through all of the impressive accolades and recognition he received, Adé stayed the same humble, funny guy whether he was giving a speech to a national conference or sitting in a classroom with first-year design students. Sigma Tau Delta The English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta (ΣΤΔ), one of the oldest and most prestigious ongoing chapters in the nation, sponsors social, intellectual, and scholarly activities on campus throughout the year. For the last two years, Sigma Tau Delta has been able to send students to the national convention, where students present papers, participate in roundtables, or read their creative work. This year, 5 students from UNC Charlotte will present at this year's Sigma Tau Delta conference held in Atlanta. Their projects range from disability in Victorian literature to creative writing endeavors. Our officers have been organizing many exciting literary events on campus to engage students and create a community within the Sigma Tau Delta society. One of these events involves a bake sale combined with a mystery book sale to fundraise for the conference in Atlanta. Still, it will take additional resources to send all 5 participants to the convention. For that reason, Sigma Tau Delta is crowdfunding this spring to raise awareness and support of our trip to the conference. To date, has been raised from gifts. 49er Racing Electric Team This year, the UNC Charlotte Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science has undertaken the project of designing and building a Formula SAE EV car to attend the FSAE competition in the Spring of 2023. Formula SAE is a Student Design Competition in which students design, build, and race a single-seater, open-wheeled race car. With the automotive industry leaning towards electrification, the 49ers Racing team made the decision to venture into a new series of competition in Electric Vehicles. While a new venture is great for student training and education, it comes with many new costs as the challenge presented has a vastly different solution to that of an internal combustion vehicle. Our team operates on a very strict budget every year and this year our total cost has been estimated at $40,000. With money allocated for all sub-teams, our budget is broken down as follows: $25,000 for powertrain, $3,900 for Vehicle Dynamics, $4,000 for Chassis, $3,150 for Low Voltage Electronics, and $1,700 for Ergonomics. This is year's powertrain team will be designing and building a complete powertrain system that includes: liquid cooling and 600 18650-batteries. The system will have 420 Volts Maximum and a 6.48kW/h battery configuration. The car is projected to have a max output of 167 HP, driven by a single Emrax 228 AC synchronous motor in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. This year's Accumulator pack Design Our Chassis team is currently designing our chassis with considerations specifically for a single-seater electric vehicle. Ergonomic measurements were taken from our drivers to assure optimal packaging efficiency while balancing the structural requirements for protecting the powertrain components. The chassis is designed for 4130 Chromoly steel tubing with a 1 inch outer diameter, which provides ease of manufacturing and design. The chassis will be CNC notched and bent by VR3 Engineering, and will be assembled in house. This year's current chassis design Our vehicle dynamics team is currently working on adjusting our suspension points by using kinematic simulations to find optimal pushrod length and overall geometry, so we can have a pushrod-type suspension with 2.5" of travel. We will be machining our own uprights using 6061 aluminum. The rockers for the pushrod suspension will be made from 7075 aluminum. This year's current suspension designOur aeronautics team is currently focused on running simulations and thermal calculations for the cooling of our motors, batteries, and all electronics while minimizing drag and optimizing downforce. They are also designing and fabricating a custom body kit that will be very research-intensive. Our Low voltage electronics team allows the team to monitor and troubleshoot issues, and improve performance. Some of the items that fall under the low voltage electronic category include AEM VCU 300 engine management system, data-logging sensors such as speed, acceleration, and G-force, and safety sensors that disable the car in the event of a failure. The low voltage team plans, designs, and manufactures a wiring harness for the chassis, incorporating sensors for each sub-team, and produces feedback data in an easy to interpret form. The wiring harness is manufactured in-house at UNCC by the Formula SAE EV team, using motorsport grade wires, connectors, and sensors. The main goal of this project is to build a cutting-edge race car and give the opportunity to learn and engage in real-world applications and projects for developing engineers and to mentor other students. To date, has been raised from gifts. 49er Rocketry Club Team Organizational Chart We are this year's UNC Charlotte NASA USLI Competition Team. This competition is an intense process of going through several design phases and presenting these to NASA throughout the competition leading up to a final full-scale launch in Huntsville Alabama. In this competition, we compete against many well-respected collegiate aerospace teams across the country. Previous Years Awards The 49er Rocketry team celebrates its tenth anniversary this year! We have had several years of successful teams with finishing in the top positions for the competition. Last year's team brought home a first-place win! Coming off of their win we know we have a lot to live up to. Our team is ready to put in the work and continue our team's success! Argos-X Rocket Our summer rocket build was named to signify the ten-year anniversary; the X represents the tenth year. This rocket was done to help prepare the team for this year's competition. We designed and built Argos-X from scratch to provide the team with experience prior to competition. Our goal was to be able to design and build a rocket that can travel up to a height of 1950 feet with the main parachute deployment at 500 feet. A payload was mounted into the upper half of the rocket to record data from the flight. This data being video footage, the orientation of the rocket, and the height that it achieves. Argos-X had a successful launch and recovery and set our team up for a successful year! For this year's competition, the team has already made progress towards designing and planning the rocket and payload! This year's rocket must travel to a height between 4,000-6,000 feet which is chosen by the team prior to the construction of the rocket. The payload for this year must be able to determine the location of which the rocket body lands within a 5,000ft x 5,000ft grid system with equal-sized grid boxes no larger than 250ft x 250ft. All of this must be done without the use of GPS. The team has been putting in many hours towards the design and research of this project and is eager to show the supporters of the team the progress that has been made. Full-scale Rocket Design For our team to stay as successful as we've been in the past, we need your help! This project requires the development of very advanced systems that tend to be very costly. Unlike our team, most other teams are back by a well-funded aerospace program. Between the research and development of our vehicle and payload, as well as the cost to travel to Huntsville Alabama for the competition, our anticipated costs are nearly $25,000. To extend our passion for rocketry and STEM, our team will be conducting several outreach events to enlighten young students about the possibilities there are within STEM. The goal for our team is to reach at least 500 students from now till the end of the competition. Your donation will not only go towards the development of our rocket, they will go towards inspiring future generations of potential STEM students. Honor this inspiring mentor who positively impacted the lives and careers of the thousands of undergraduate and graduate students at UNC Charlotte. Honor Dr. Hocken's life and love of Mechanical Engineering and Precision Metrology at UNC Charlotte. To date, has been rasied. Dr. Robert (Bob) Hocken, Professor Emeritus of UNC Charlotte’s Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science Department died on June 2, 2021. Dr. Hocken was an international leader in the field of precision engineering, an award-winning educator, and a much-loved professor and colleague. One of the founding fathers of engineering and scientific research at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Hocken came to Charlotte in 1988 as the Norvin Kennedy Dickerson Jr. Distinguished Professor of Precision Engineering. He established and led the University’s Center for Precision Metrology until his retirement in May, 2014. Support the Dr. Robert Hocken ME&ES Scholarship and Hocken Awards today to honor Dr. Hocken's life-long dedication to the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Center for Precision Metrology at UNC Charlotte. Your donation will help endow a scholarship to support Charlotte mechanical engineering students who have a financial need and an interest in precision metrology. This scholarship will live on and honor Dr. Hocken in perpetuity through the next generation of mechanical engineers. In addition to the Scholarship to honor his incomparable life and impact, we have created a fund to support four meaningful "Hocken Awards". One of Dr. Hocken’s favorite tasks was acting as advisor for the Mini-Baja team, which he did for 15 years. The Mini-Baja is a car, completely designed and built by students, that has to run over hills and trails, through mud and across water. The UNC Charlotte team always had an advantage with Dr. Hocken as its advisor, because not only was he an expert in mechanical design, but he also let the team practice in the fields and roads at his farm. He also encouraged students to take advantage of research opportunities; encouraged his fellow faculty members to establish partnerships in research; and pushed for funds for faculty to be able to attend and deliver lectures across the US. A gift to the Hocken Engineering Awards will support these four endeavors that will have a lasting impact on the engineering program: Hocken BAJA Motorsports fund – This recognizes Dr. Bob Hocken's contributions as an integral part of the early SAE Baja competition entries. A badge will be applied to the Baja car in the selected year to recognize the support. Hocken Award for Student Research – This is to honor a student in Dr. Hocken's tradition of recognizing excellence in the Center for Precision Metrology through an annual award focused on a graduate student to offset tuition, travel for the annual conference, or for a student research presentation. Hocken Award for Faculty Research - to recognize Dr. Hocken's nurturing encouragement of faculty to establish partnerships with other institutions, both domestic and international. through an annual award focused on faculty retention and recognition. Hocken Lecture Series – This reflects Bob's willingness to host external researchers at UNC Charlotte through an award that allows the Dean or Department Head to award travel expenses for visiting lecturers or for a COE Faculty presentation at another university. As a researcher, Dr. Hocken is known for transforming metrology in the U.S. and the world. A few of his significant research contributions include the invention of the original tracking interferometer system, commonly known today as a laser tracker, and pioneering work the field of software error correction for coordinate measuring machines and machine tools. As a teacher, Dr. Hocken is remembered by his students as an inspiring mentor, who positively impacted the lives and careers of the thousands of undergraduate and graduate students who passed through his classroom. He understood and exemplified the importance of training students to be independent, critical and analytical engineers, with the professional skills needed in the modern world. He supervised more than 33 Ph.D. and master’s student theses, and won numerous teaching awards.

To date, has been raised. 45 years after starting his career at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Yogi Kakad is retiring, and is thankful for the valuable advice he got all those years ago that encouraged him to take a position at UNC Charlotte. Click here to leave a farewell message for Dr. Kakad. When he came to Charlotte in 1976, Dr. Kakad was an assistant professor in the department known as Engineering Analysis and Design. Over the years, the department became Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Dr. Kakad rose to the level of full professor. Currently the longest-serving faculty member in The Williams States Lee College of Engineering, Dr. Kakad is now finishing the final year of his three-year phased retirement. In his early years at UNC Charlotte, Dr. Kakad was involved in the development of much of the electrical engineering curriculum. Many of the early classes he developed are still being taught today. Support the Kakad Family Scholarship to honor Dr. Kakad's life-long dedication to electrical and computer engineering at UNC Charlotte. Your support will help provide scholarship assistance to Charlotte electrical and computer engineering students who have a demonstrated commitment to promoting gender equality in engineering. Dr. Kakad was also instrumental in starting UNC Charlotte’s graduate programs. “When I started here, the first Dean of the college, Dr. Barnett said ‘Son, we expect you to help develop the graduate programs here.’ And so, I was the first person in the engineering college to teach a graduate class. I also mentored the very first master’s thesis student at the University in 1980, as part of the Master’s of Science in Engineering program.” Following the start of the Master’s program, Dr. Kakad was heavily involved in the committees that developed the first Ph.D. programs, which were in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Mathematics. In support of the graduate programs, Dr. Kakad began helping the University build its research programs. A key to the growing research on campus was the creation of the research centers, initially including the North Carolina Microelectronics Center and Center for Precision Metrology, and then in later years, the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center. Working with UNC Charlotte’s students for the past 45 years has been an honor, Dr. Kakad said. He is especially proud of the accomplishments of his graduate students, and values the many wonderful experiences he had with them over the years. “The best advice I ever got was from my professor who encouraged me to come to UNC Charlotte. He was right. It has been very rewarding. I got to be part of very exciting times.”

Jolly Family Scholarship Endowment is being established through contributions from family and friends in honor of Dr. Stephen A. Jolly and Cheryl C. Jolly. Dr. Jolly began teaching at UNC Charlotte in 1975 after being recruited by Tom Turner. For 26 years he taught within the Turner School of Accountancy and the Belk College of Business, primarily financial accounting, as well as cost and tax accounting. Dr. Jolly was the 1980 recipient of the Bank of America Award for Excellence in Teaching, UNC Charlotte's most prestigious teaching award. For over 20 years, Mrs. Jolly cared for countless students while working as a nurse in the Student Health Center. The Jolly family embodies everything we associate with being a Niner – hard work, dedication, commitment, and a philanthropic spirit. It began with Stephen and Cheryl. This scholarship honors the memory of alumnus Eric Winkenwerder, celebrates Eric’s lifelong love of theatrical stage and event lighting, and honors his wife, UNC Charlotte alumna Suzanne Newsom. Eric Winkenwerder, owner of Wink Lighting, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. He was a proud graduate earning a Bachelor of Creative Arts from UNC Charlotte. Throughout his career as a lighting designer, he shed his light on many stages for Playworks, Children's Theatre, Charlotte Repertory Theatre, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Omimeo, and the Moving Poets, to name just a few. As an event designer, his company illuminated celebrations throughout Charlotte and beyond. Whether designing lights at a country club, a home, or a theatre, Eric's desire was to take our eyes to what mattered most. Honor former UNC Charlotte Art/Art History Chair Eldred Hudson and his work in the areas of graphic design, digital media, and illustration. Support the E. Hudson Graphic Design Student Award Many of you were influenced at UNC Charlotte by former Art/Art History Chair Eldred Hudson and his work to develop the graphic design concentration specifically. Serving as the Area Coordinator for the concentration until 2009, Eldred was instrumental in acquiring the faculty, equipment, and facilities that have since provided the framework for steady growth and program refinement in graphic design, digital media, and illustration. He retired from the University in 2021 and I have honored him by committing to fund a $25,000 endowment - a forever award in his name - that he decided with me how the student will be selected each year. American Society of Civil Eng. * *Photos featured were taken pre-COVID-19 and are reflective of past American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) competitions We are a team of civil engineering students at UNC Charlotte who are a part of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Our organization participates annually in the regional conference known as Carolina's Conference where we compete against other local universities with respected engineering programs. This competition provides Civil Engineering students with an opportunity to utilize the knowledge and skillsets learned within the classroom to real world problems. This year's regional Carolina's Competition is being held from March 25-27, 2021 hosted virtually by the University of South Carolina. We are crowdfunding to help pay for the registration of ASCE members to the conference and to provide the necessary materials to each of the individual teams to compete in their competition. UNC Charlotte has participated in the ASCE Student Conferences since the 1970s, and has enjoyed some great success. In the most recent Carolinas Conference held in 2019 as NC State University, the Forty-Niners won the overall regional competition and taking home 1st place honors in Concrete Canoe, Innovation, T-shirt Competition, Freshmore, and AISC Student Steel Bridge. With your support, ASCE hopes to continue its winning legacy and inspire future engineers through our efforts and success.

The UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund helps current students by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable emergency expenses, including pandemics. Your support of the Class Gift gives fellow 49ers a future to believe in. The Jamil Niner Student Pantry provides assistance to UNC Charlotte students who struggle with food insecurities, helping ensure that every student has access to nutritious food. A contribution of $50 to the Jamil Niner Food Pantry will provide seven lunches and a $100 donation will feed one student dinner all week. The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association Scholarship for Social Justice was created to support and uplift current students engaged in social action, racial justice and economic efforts in their communities. The fund provides annual support to returning undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need, potential for academic success in their chosen program of study, and a record of service or social action either at UNC Charlotte, in the greater Charlotte community or in the student’s hometown. UNC Charlotte's Actuarial Science Club is raising money for a scholarship benefiting women in the math and statistics field. Join the Actuarial Science Club in honoring Josee by donating to the Women in Math and Statistics scholarship. To date, out of $25,000 has been raised. Women in Math and Statistics The Actuarial Science Club is a student organization for those interested in a career in actuarial science. The actuarial science profession makes use of a person’s knowledge of mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, and risk theory in the business world. UNC Charlotte's Actuarial Science Club is raising money in honor and memory of Marie Josee Mukamwiza, a 2005 graduate from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, that established this scholarship. The purpose of the fund is to encourage and support women in the math and statistics field. Last spring semester, $10,000 was successfully raised but these students are still in need of your support. The goal is to raise an additional $15,000 to support a student each spring semester and ultimately endow the scholarship at $25,000 to honor Marie Josee by awarding students each year. The fund will provide an annual $500 scholarship to a Junior or Senior. The math and statistics field is comprised of 40.6% women. As this industry grows, women interested in pursuing careers in math and statistics should feel support and be provided the same opportunities as men in the same field. The Women in Math and Statistics Scholarship at UNC Charlotte provides financial support to students dedicated to encouraging gender equality in the field of mathematics at UNC Charlotte. BCC Alumnae We are Frenchie Brown, Rhonda Caldwell and Kim Couthen, three proud alumnae of UNC Charlotte who are also proud graduates of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. The UNC Charlotte Department of History faculty and staff created and funded the Gregory Mixon-Sonya Ramsey Black Lives Matter Scholarship to honor two senior African American colleagues, Dr. Gregory Mixon and Dr. Sonya Ramsey, who have provided outstanding mentorship and support to bring diversity to the history department. UNC Charlotte's History Department has an underrepresented minority (URM) student population of 30% in the 2020-21 academic year. As a department, History faculty are joining together to bring awareness and support to URM History students by providing a scholarship for seniors. The History Department selected its first recipient of the scholarship this year, Candace Silver. With your help, we hope to continue to support Niner seniors with a commitment to promoting diversity and fighting for racial justice. 20-21 NASA Student Launch Competition

Help engineering students on the 49er Rocketry Team design, build, and fly a high-powered rocket to compete for the NASA Student Launch Competition. Help the 49er Rocketry Team compete at the 2021 NASA Student Launch Competition. To date, has been raised from gifts. 49er Rocketry Team We are a team of engineering students at UNC Charlotte who are entering this year’s NASA Student Launch Competition. This is a rigorous and fiercely competitive challenge to design, build, and fly a high powered rocket to complete a mission designed by NASA. In total, nine teams from UNC Charlotte have competed in this prestigious challenge, beating teams from MIT, NC State, the Naval Academy and other veteran aerospace schools. Awards From Previous Years The last three teams to compete from UNC Charlotte placed second overall. We intend to carry UNC Charlotte’s venerable reputation and tradition of excellence into this year’s competition. CAD Rendering of Vehicle We are currently designing a rocket that will carry a payload to an altitude of 3500-5500 feet and return to the earth unharmed. The payload will be jettisoned from the payload section of the vehicle at a range at 700 feet. Upon landing, the payload will autonomously self-level to within 5 degrees of the vertical axis. The payload will then take a 360 degree photo that will be transmitted to the team during the competition. To meet these requirements, we will be designing a deployment mechanism that will allow the payload to be safely ejected and self-leveled without a rocket airframe interference. CAD Rendering of Payload In order to be successful, we need your help! The development of a system that will be competitive is costly and we will be up against teams with well-funded aerospace programs. Between the development budget of the vehicle and payload, as well as our travel expenses to attend the competition in Huntsville, AL, our total anticipated budget is nearly $21,000. To carry our passion and ambitions into the community, our team will also be conducting numerous outreach events at local schools to help nurture K-12 students' curiosities in the STEM field. Our goal is to reach more than 600 students over the course of the competition. MPA Program Sharon Jarrett Thacker devoted her life to serving those most in need and ensuring the nonprofit sector had a new generation of innovative and passionate leaders to be ready to handle whatever the future may hold. Sharon passed away in 2020 and to honor her memory, the faculty and alumni of the Public Administration Program are continuing her mission through the Sharon Jarrett Thacker Scholarship for Creative Nonprofit Leadership. Sharon was a nonprofit administrator in Charlotte for over 25 years, taking time in the evenings to be an adjunct professor for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Public Administration Program. Sharon also served the nonprofit community at the national level as a volunteer for the Alliance for Children and Families and the Council on Accreditation. Sharon’s passion for building confidence and skills in young nonprofit leaders, famously stating, “Leap and the net will appear” was her greatest professional joy and made her a memorable member of the UNC Charlotte faculty and Charlotte community. Her encouragement of creative, innovative leadership generated from her sparkling personality and ability to make everyone feel special and inspired made her a favorite among students and colleagues. Help support the Men's Club Lacrosse team off-set lodging and travel expenses to get the team to national tournaments! Support UNC Charlotte Men's Club Lacrosse! Matthew Lucke The UNC Charlotte Men's Lacrosse Club team serves the opportunity for 30-40 students to come together and play competitive lacrosse. Following our 2022 season, we won our conference championship, and traveled to nationals as the #15 seed, upsetting the #2 seed for the biggest upset in MCLA history. Our goal is to make it to the national championship tournament again, but we need your financial support to achieve that goal. The purpose of the club is to provide a place for 49er students wishing to continue playing competitive lacrosse at the collegiate level. The team runs mostly out of students' own pockets which requires a high level of commitment from our players. Since the club team is self-funded, we are in need of your help. A donation of any amount will help our club team be able to pay for protective equipment, such as lacrosse helmets, as well as travel expenses, such as lodging and transportation for the team to be able to compete more broadly than just the regional area.
