Our Crowdfunding Groups
A group of alumni and community leaders came together in November 2018, to honor Ken Lambla for his work as a long-time faculty member and former Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture. The group made contributions to endow a scholarship in Ken's name and hope to gain additional support so that up to two additional annual awards can be made.
Ken Lambla, AIA, is the founding Dean of the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte, where he began his faculty appointment in 1983. He led the COA+A for a decade before stepping down as Dean in December 2018.
His career in both education and practice is focused on architecture and the arts as forms of community development and advocacy for social responsibility, craft, and innovation. Lambla has taught nationally and internationally in architectural design, design processes, creative leadership, and social histories connecting art, design, and visual and performing arts as critical to cultural representation.His work as an architect and urban designer and his research has focused on social histories of housing projects as well as educational and institutional projects.
In Charlotte, he has served on the National Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the McColl Center for Visual Art, the Historical Elizabeth Neighborhood Foundation, Charlotte Ballet, and has worked on projects with the Mint Museum, the ASC Task Force for Spirit Square, the Levine Museum of the New South, Charlotte Teachers Institute, and the First Ward and Irwin Open Elementary Schools. In 2012, Ken helped produce Violins of Hope, a cross-community cultural project focused on the North American premiere exhibition of violins played in Holocaust concentration camps.
