CHALLENGE COMPLETE! A GIFT OF $500 HAS BEEN UNLOCKED! UPDATE 10-19-21 : An anonymous donor has generously come forward, and if we can get 10 donors to give it will unlock a gift of $500 to the Mixon-Ramsey Black Lives Matter Scholarship!

The UNC Charlotte Department of History faculty and staff created and funded the Gregory Mixon-Sonya Ramsey Black Lives Matter Scholarship to honor two senior African American colleagues, Dr. Gregory Mixon and Dr. Sonya Ramsey, who have provided outstanding mentorship and support to bring diversity to the history department.

UNC Charlotte's History Department has an underrepresented minority (URM) student population of 30% in the 2020-21 academic year. As a department, History faculty are joining together to bring awareness and support to URM History students by providing a scholarship for seniors.

The History Department selected its first recipient of the scholarship this year, Candace Silver.

With your help, we hope to continue to support Niner seniors with a commitment to promoting diversity and fighting for racial justice. Given the current events happening in the United States, the History Department hopes you will support this scholarship and make a difference for 49er students.

By making a donation today, your gift will help fund a scholarship to a History major senior student from historically underrepresented populations at UNC Charlotte or a student with a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity within the major, including but not limited to African American, Latinx, and Native American.

If you or your spouse/partner work for a company that matches your charitable gifts, you may be able to increase the size of your donation through a matching gift. Search our online database to see if your organization participates.
