This #GivingTuesday, UNC Charlotte is asking alumni & friends to support the Jamil Niner Student Pantry.
Following Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is a global day dedicated to giving and celebrating generosity. For UNC Charlotte, this is a day that brings the community together to transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season. We will celebrate giving by supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry on campus to ensure 49er students have the resources they need this holiday season.
The mission of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry is to ensure food security, human dignity, and well-being on campus by providing in-need UNC Charlotte students with healthy, culturally appropriate emergency food. The Student Pantry hopes to do their part in assuring that no person in the Niner community goes hungry and that every student has access to nutritious food.
There are three main goals at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry. These goals will help build institutional capacity for combating food insecurity and contribute to student well-being and enhanced learning outcomes for both student volunteers and student clients.
The Jamil Niner Student Pantry is able to provide food to 49er students in need during the year due to monetary donations and food drives. However, the holiday season is the pantry's busiest time of year. Making a donation of any dollar amount will help the pantry staff purchase the needed food items for the UNC Charlotte students who are facing food insecurities.
In the 2018-2019 academic year, the Jamil Niner Student Pantry served 2,680 students. With this increase, more food was purchased including fresh produce from a local gardening store that allowed the Pantry to grow tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, strawberries, collard greens, basil, and eggplant. The Jamil Niner Student Pantry disseminated over 250 lbs of fresh produce to students.

By making a gift of $25, you can provide a weeks worth of breakfast (a box of cereal & gallon of milk) for 5 students.
By making a gift of $49, you will be able to provide a weeks worth of lunch for 1 student.
By making a gift of $149, you will be able to provide a weeks worth of dinner for 1 student.
The Student Pantry is in need of reusable grocery bags, plastic shopping baskets, and paper pulp cartons. These resources help them serve 49er students daily.
