I'm excited to announce that along with the #GivingTuesday donations totaling $16,226, there was 3,769 lbs of food collected in December.
The generous donations from the #GivingTuesday campaign allow the Jamil Niner Pantry to purchase much needed food items and pantry supplies heading into the spring semester. Because of your support, we are able to purchase the appropriate food storage containers needed to restart the Campus Food Recycling Program, an initiative that allows us to extend our reach and better serve our student clients.
Our 49ers are grateful for your generosity!

Thank you for supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry during #GivingTuesday! Your donation to the student pantry provides food and resources for 49er students facing food insecurity this holiday season and beyond. Together as a community, Niner Nation has exceeded the participation goal and raised $14,862 for the Jamil Niner Student Pantry during #GivingTuesday.
Thank you for making a difference!
Making a gift to the Jamil Niner Student Pantry creates a ripple effect that continues to live on. With your support this #GivingTuesday, our students can overcome food insecurity to pursue the education that they deserve.
During Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (Nov. 18-23), Leadership & Community Engagement collected 2,144 meal swipes that will be reallocated to UNC Charlotte students experiencing food insecurity. This initiative is part of the University's Swipe Out Hunger program.
Swipe Out Hunger allows students to donate extra meals and declining balance that would otherwise go unused. Students experiencing food insecurity who need to utilize the Swipe Out Hunger program can complete an assessment with Student Assistance and Support Services. If eligible, students will receive meal swipes or declining balance swipes on their 49er ID cards.
Each student who walks through the doors of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry has unique needs, but volunteers always work to make a long-lasting connection.
When Emmitt Scott '18 and Sean Myhand '18 began attending UNC Charlotte, they sensed the need to address food insecurity on campus. As freshmen, they jumped right in to help launch the Jamil Niner Student Pantry.
Food insecurity is the unspoken reality of many college students. Awareness is the first step toward matching them with the support they need. Click here for more information about Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at UNC Charlotte.
