Leadership Academy Student Capstone Projects

Support the College of Engineering Leadership Academy students as they implement their Capstone community outreach projects!

This year, the leadership academy students are crowdfunding to help fund three Capstone Projects.

The Leadership Academy is a two-year, extra-curricular program modeled after leadership training programs for young professionals in industry.  It prepares undergraduate students to successfully fulfill leadership roles on campus and within the engineering industry by building their leadership abilities.

Capstone Project: Play Spaces That Empower

Support Play Spaces That Empower as we develop customized play spaces for children with special needs!

All children benefit from play time.  But, many children are not able to experience the benefits due to the design of the play area versus their physical capabilities.

The goals of this project are to design play spaces based on the needs of selected individual children, purchase appropriate materials, and then construct and deliver playhouses to the designated families.

Play Spaces That Empower has identified a local family with a son who has spastic cerebral palsy. Your support will help support the procurement of the necessary materials to build an adaptive playhouse.

Designate your gift to support Play Spaces That Empower by writing "Play" in the "In honor of" field.

Capstone Project: Culture Bridge Builders

Support the Cultural Bridge Builders as we aim to create a diverse and inclusive community within UNC Charlotte’s College of Engineering!

We want to create a diverse and inclusive community within the University of North Carolina’s College of Engineering. This starts by learning how to communicate effectively with one another, which bridges the path to a deeper understanding of each other's backgrounds. We plan to accomplish this by obtaining an author to hold a “Communicating Across Cultures” workshop, distributing the author's books amongst the student body, and creating a website and interactive map to place within the College of Engineering. The lasting impact will be the foundation we hope to build so students going into the workforce are more aware, knowledgeable, and prepared for global connections.

Capstone Project: Project Hollingsworth

Support Project Hollingsworth because every donation you make can make a significant difference in the lives of those battling SCA-7.

This project aims to help raise awareness for the disease SCA-7, a rare neurodegenerative disorder. Through tabling events and other platforms, we aim to inform as many people as possible about the effects of this disease. Eventually we hope to attract the medical community's attention so a cure can be developed.

By contributing to our cause, you're directly funding efforts to raise awareness about this disease allowing us to reach more individuals and communities affected by SCA-7, and garner more support for this crucial cause. Every dollar you contribute brings us closer to a future where those with SCA-7 can live a life free from the limitations of this debilitating condition.

Please note that donations directly support the Leadership Academy Capstone Projects ONLY, not the overall Engineering Leadership Academy.  Your donation will support Engineering Leadership Academy Capstone projects or future projects related to the Engineering Leadership Academy if this project is fully funded.
