New Sled

June 11, 2019

After getting caught in Chicago due to bad weather, our scrum sled arrived in early March. Both the Women's Club Team and the Men's Club Team have benefited from the new sled. It has truly been a huge tool for both teams as we practiced this spring semester.

Thank you so much for your support and helping us purchase a much needed new sled!

We're happy to report that both club teams finished the season strong --

- The Men's Rugby Club finished 5th nationally in D2 going 5-1 on the weekend in Tuscon, AZ. The team went 3-0 in pool play on Friday (5/24) and 2-1 on Saturday (5/25). It was a great season and the team defied a lot of adversity throughout the year.

- The Women's Rugby Club finished 4-2 in the conference this season and are excited for all that is to come next fall.

We really appreciate all of your support this year!

Thank you!

November 26, 2018

On behalf of UNC Charlotte Men's and Women's Rugby Club teams, thank you so much to everyone who supported our campaign to purchase a new scrum sled! We are extremely excited to have surpassed our goal and to be able to purchase a new sled which will help us improve players' strength and skills.

Last weekend, the Men's Rugby Club team advanced to the Sweet 16 and beat William Patterson 57-17. Unfortunately, the next day we lost to NC State. The team has finished in the top 8 of the Division 2 Collegiate bracket which is the furthest our club has ever gotten. Lots to be proud of this year. Below is a picture of the team last weekend.

We will update everyone once our new sled has come in - we can't wait to put it to good use.

Do you remember this?

October 26, 2018

If you were a member of either the Men's Rugby Club or Women's Rugby Club at UNC Charlotte, chances are you would have used this scrummage sled. Fact is, this sled has been around since the early '90s and it has definitely seen better days.

Please help us raise money to purchase a new scrum sled so that we can put this one to rest.

$25

"Knock-On"

A knock-on occurs when the ball is knocked forward off of a player’s body in any way other than a kick. If a knock-on is committed, play is stopped and the game is restarted with a scrum.

$49

"Line-Out"

A line-out occurs when the ball goes out-of-bounds. The forwards on each team line up to catch the ball as it is thrown back in, usually by the hooker. Two lifters on each team will lift a jumper into the air to catch the ball, which is then passed to the scrumhalf.

$149

"Ruck"

After a tackle, players on both sides form a ruck. They bind onto each other and try to drive the opposing team back to win possession of the ball.

$249

"Scrum"

A scrum is one way to restart play after a minor infringement. Both teams’ forwards bind up in three rows, and then bind on to each other so that the front rows are interlocked. The scrumhalf throws the ball into the gap between the two front rows, and the hookers on both teams try to hook the ball back with their feet while the other forwards try to drive the opposing team away from the ball.
