Kung Fu Club 2026-27
Description
For 11 years, the UNC Charlotte Kung Fu Club has brought traditional Chinese martial arts to the UNC Charlotte community.
Our club studies Lai Tung Pai Kung Fu, a traditional Southern Chinese martial art that develops practical skills, physical conditioning, focus, coordination, and discipline. Our training goes far beyond simply learning techniques—we work together to preserve a martial-arts tradition while building a strong community of students.
Our training includes:
Kung Fu forms and traditional techniques
Chi Sau (sticky hands) and partner training
Controlled sparring and practical applications
Lion Dance, an important part of our club’s activities and cultural practice
Chi and meditation training
Conditioning and workouts
Tournaments and competitions
Learning and teaching traditional forms
Competition gives our members the opportunity to put their training into practice, challenge themselves, and represent UNC Charlotte alongside other martial artists. Lion Dance also gives us a way to share Chinese martial arts and culture with the broader university and local community.
But training and competition come with costs.
We are raising funds for tournament registration, travel, equipment, protective gear, team gear, and other expenses that help our members train and compete.
Every contribution helps give our students more opportunities to train, compete, perform, and continue a tradition that has been part of UNC Charlotte for more than a decade.
Help us support the next generation of UNC Charlotte martial artists.
