Stephanie Alvarez - Team Lead

I’m Stephanie Alvarez, and I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Aerospace Engineering at UNC Charlotte. I’m passionate about advancing in the field of aerospace and proud to be among the first students in UNCC’s new aerospace concentration. As the Team Lead of the UNCC Design Build Fly (DBF) competition team, I’m excited to help build and strengthen the program as we enter our second year of competing in the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) Design Build Fly event. Outside of academics, I love gardening and cultivating my outdoor space, growing vegetables and perennials while letting this creativity inspire my cooking and other hands-on projects at home.

Gilberto Feliú - Avionics Lead

I’m Gilberto Feliú, an Electrical Engineering and Physics major at UNC Charlotte. I serve as the Avionics Lead for our AIAA Design/Build/Fly team, where I focus on the aircraft’s electrical and control systems, including power distribution, receiver and servo integration, and test workflows. I’ve always been drawn to robotics and math because I enjoy understanding how different systems work together to make things move and respond. Outside of engineering, I like playing piano and congas, which help me slow down and think creatively in a different way. My goal is to keep building my skills in robotics and control systems so I can design technology that’s both precise and reliable.

Isaac Stoner - Fabrication Lead

Hey all! I’m an aviation enthusiast studying Mechanical Engineering Technology. I’ve had the opportunity to live in several different countries and enjoy hearing people’s stories. My hobbies include reading, gaming, hanging out, playing airsoft, and more!

Jake Sowards - Structures Lead

Hello, my name is Jake Sowards and I am a senior mechanical engineering student at UNC Charlotte. I am currently the president of the Chi Phi Fraternity at UNC Charlotte and in my free time I enjoy watching sports, golfing, and going to the gym.
