Alternative Service Break

Alternative Service Break (ASB) is more than just a trip - it’s a chance for students to trade a week of vacation for a week of service, learning, and impact. Instead of relaxing on the beach, our students are out building homes, cleaning up after storms, supporting kids, or working alongside nonprofits tackling tough issues.

Through ASB, students gain hands-on experience, learn about new cultures, and discover what it means to be active citizens who create change.

Why We Need Your Support

We’re raising funds to make these trips more affordable and accessible to all students. Your gift helps:

  • Cover food and lodging costs (our biggest expenses!)
  • Provide scholarships for students with financial need
  • Expand the program to reach more communities in the U.S. and beyond

Every dollar helps a student step into a life-changing experience while directly benefiting the communities we serve.

Meet Our Trip Leaders!

   Fall Leaders:

Arielle Dunn
I’m a junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Health and Medical Humanities. My favorite ASB memory was connecting with unhoused folks at a local park - hearing their stories reminded me how much we all need community and support. That moment inspired me to keep showing up for others.

Jess Kinzle
I’m a sophomore Computer Science major who loves how ASB builds real connections. On my last trip, I met amazing volunteers, community partners, and leaders who made Charlotte feel like home. Those friendships and experiences are why I keep coming back.

   Spring Leaders:

She’Naajah Warner

I’m a junior majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. On the Memphis trip, visiting “Room in the Inn” was life-changing. Hearing a staff member’s passion and stories showed me how even the smallest acts of service can create a huge impact.

Jackie Perez-Espinoza
I’m a senior in Exercise Science (Pre-PA track) with a minor in Biology. One of my favorite ASB moments was delivering meals in Memphis and connecting with families who’ve lived there for generations. It was powerful to share those conversations while giving back.

Wamah Mattaldi

I’m a junior majoring in Health Systems Management with a minor in Public Health. On my Charleston trip, serving at a soup kitchen and handing out treats meant so much - not just for the community, but for the bond it created within our team.
