Our Crowdfunding Groups
The “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band took the field in Fall 2015, making history by unveiling a pre-game show unique to UNC Charlotte and a series of half-time performances designed to excite the entire Niner Nation.
Today, the band has grown to over 170 members! The band performs throughout each football game, leading the crowd in cheers for crucial plays and in the fight song after every touchdown. And, of course, win or lose, the band leads the players, cheerleaders, and faithful fans in the UNC Charlotte Alma Mater at the conclusion of every home game. Additionally, 49ers Basketball Band performs for both men’s and women’s basketball teams throughout the basketball season. Since UNC Charlotte is an NCAA Division I school, band members travel to annual conference tournament games, including the NCAA basketball tournament.
The Department of Music leadership has a goal to provide scholarships for as many members of the band as possible, and to make the experience of participating in the “Pride of Niner Nation” with little to no cost for all students.
There are several areas of priority for the band this year and we need your support!
Scholarships
Scholarships show our students that we as a community value the hard work and dedication they show to Niner Nation every year. This money allows students to attend marching band rehearsals without fear of missing the income they could have by working an evening job. Ultimately, scholarships show our students that we are just as invested in their success as they are in ours.
Discretionary Funds
The band relies upon a general discretionary fund to support operating budget expenses not sufficiently covered by other funds. Areas of support include uniforms, instruments, marching shoes, travel expenses, gameday meals, and much more!
Endowment Funds
The Marching Band is proud that many of our most loyal supporters have generously established permanent endowments that will provide funding for scholarships for members of the marching band. The Vickie and Gene Johnson Marching Band Scholarship, the Fischer Family Scholarship, the Williams Dahnert Marching Band Scholarship, the Barnhardt Marching Band Endowment, and the Frank E. Wampler, Jr. “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band Endowment are examples of endowed funds provide scholarships for active members of the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band.
