Your UNC Charlotte Mock Trial competed in the Wildcat Invitational at Davidson College this past weekend.
While we did not come away with any awards, we became closer as a team, and had a blast competing. We had many new members blossom and exceed expectations this past weekend and we look forward to hosting our own invitational in January here at UNC Charlotte! Everything is practice for regionals in February.
Thank you to our past donors and (hopefully) future donors for making this possible!
Your Charlotte Mock Trial held a Spooktober bake sale on campus to end out the month of October! We had fun treats like red velvet "vampire" cookies, "witch, please" pumpkin loaf, "not your boo" brownies, along with many other fun snacks. Despite the cold and rainy end of October weather, we love to spread mock trial awareness and raise money for a great cause!
Saturday October 21st your UNC Charlotte Mock Trial team took on Atlanta, Georgia, at our first invitational of the season, put on by Kennesaw State University, held at John Marshall Law School.
The first time competing for many new members helped to solidify their love for mock trial. UNC Charlotte walked away with 2 best attorney awards and 3 best witnesses awards. Those witnesses, of which two had never competed before. We are incredibly proud of our team for taking away 5 out of the 21 awards given out this weekend! This weekend has brought the organization more together as a whole and we cannot wait to start preparing for our next invitational competition!
It would not be possible without our donors, thank you!
Thank you to all our donors for your support in making this possible!
This past weekend, your UNC Charlotte Mock Trial Executive Team scrimmaged against UNCW in Wilmington, North Carolina.
We took our exec. team to try and gain a better understanding of The State of Midlands v. Berkley De la Porta. Our team took on the role of defense. We gained vital insight on ways to go about proving and defending this case.
We look forward to our first scored competition!
The "easiest" burden of proof in the legal system. Involves specific and articulable facts. A donation of $25 will help cover gas for 5 students to a local competition.
The second "easiest" burden of proof in the legal system. Involves facts and circumstances that lead an ordinary person to believe one way or another. A donation of $49 will help feed 4 students at an away competition.
The middle burden of proof in the legal system. "More likely than not." A donation of $100 will cover a significant portion of admission fees for one team at a competition.
The second most difficult burden of proof. Requires a firm belief or conviction that one is guilty. A $149 donation will help cover gas for multiple of our teams to travel to competitions.
The most difficult burden of proof in the legal system. The current burden of proof in the case we are litigating this year. Requires elimination of every reasonable doubt. A donation of $250 will help cover lodging for 5+ students at an away competition.
