Recruitment Success -
Before the start of classes, we had the opportunity to participate in the annual Student Organizations Showcase. This event allowed us to connect with hundreds of UNC Charlotte students who were eager to learn more about VEX U Robotics. We loved engaging with the campus community and sharing our love for robotics with anyone interested. Our spur-of-the-moment bubble maker also made the event extra fun :)
During our interest meetings, we were able to welcome around 50 new students. The interest meetings left us enthusiastic about the group we’d get to work alongside this year.
Brainstorming and Planning -
Once our recruitment efforts wrapped up we jumped right into the engineering design process. Our first two weeks of meetings were spent brainstorming, researching, and planning how we wanted to approach our robot design this year. We embraced the “no such thing as a bad idea” philosophy and our list of design ideas included baseball batting machines, grappling hooks, and of course bubble makers! While we also explored more “realistic” and “effective” ideas, our extra imaginative ones added an extra layer of fun.
Building Our First Robot! -
The arrival of our first batch of robot parts resulted in pure excitement as this meant we would finally get to start building! We assembled a basic robot kit to get some hands-on experience with the build system. Seeing our robot move for the first time was extremely rewarding and the team is more motivated than ever to accomplish great things this year. Soon we will start working on robot designs for our specific ideas.
Thank you for your ongoing support, we wouldn’t be where we are right now without you! Stick around to see what else we create this year.
