Since our founding on September 23, 1946, UNC Charlotte has transformed from a night school serving World War II veterans into a vibrant research university, making it one of the great success stories of American higher education. With characteristic grace and determination, our founder, Bonnie E. Cone worked tirelessly for the University, motivating students, winning friends, and attracting benefactors.
As we continue to honor Miss Bonnie's legacy and keep her tradition of serving others alive, we encourage you to support UNC Charlotte students by making a gift of any size to one of our student success initiatives.
UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund
The UNC Charlotte Student Emergency Fund helps current students by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected, unforeseen, and unavoidable emergency expenses, including pandemics. Please consider donating to the Emergency Fund to help our Niners during this difficult time.
Jamil Niner Student Food Pantry
The Jamil Niner Student Pantry provides assistance to UNC Charlotte students who struggle with food insecurities, helping ensure that every student has access to nutritious food. During this time, the on-campus pantry remains open for students, utilizing a web order form to maximize social distancing. The staff bags the groceries and hands them to students so they don’t have to shop in the pantry. A contribution of $50 to the Jamil Niner Food Pantry will provide seven lunches and a $100 donation will feed one student dinner all week.
Alumni Scholarship for Social Justice:
The UNC Charlotte Alumni Association Scholarship for Social Justice was created by the Alumni Association to support and uplift current students engaged in social action, racial justice and economic efforts in their communities. The fund provides annual support to returning undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need, potential for academic success in their chosen program of study, and a record of service or social action either at UNC Charlotte, in the greater Charlotte community or in the student’s hometown.
Student Technology Resource Fund:
The Student Technology Resource Fund provides scholarships to new and current 49er students to assist them with their required technology needs. Many classes are currently virtual, or have a virtual component, and students must have a reliable laptop and webcam to complete coursework and assignments. This fund helps cover the cost of hardware, software and other technology that will aid a student's progress toward their 49er degree.
Student-Athlete Wellness Fund:
The Student-Athlete Wellness Fund assists with the areas of mental health, nutrition, COVID expenses, and additional scholarship support associated with those who opt-in for an extra year of eligibility as allowed by the NCAA. Gifts to the Student-Athlete Wellness Fund are considered separate from the Athletic Annual Giving Fund.
