On this week of giving thanks, the UNC Charlotte Formula SAE Team would like to say thank you to all of our supporters, family, alumni, and team members for your great generosity during our crowdfunding campaign. With all of your help we are progressing toward another successful season at a blistering pace. One of the greatest difficulties to overcome as a FSAE team is how to raise enough money to make all of the goals set by the team achievable. For our team, the ability to make decisions based upon the best possible design rather than the lowest possible cost can mean the difference between first and last place. Your contributions have provided us with a competitive advantage unlike ever before.
Additionally, thanks to a lot of hard work and dedication from our team members we have completed the chassis welding process in record time. The team is currently working on completing the suspension systems and wheel assemblies for the rolling chassis to be completed by the end of the semester. Meanwhile the turbocharged engine and complete aerodynamics package are being developed and optimized for completion by the end of the year.
Finally, team members have been hard at work publishing a periodic newsletter which will keep our supporters up to date on the team's progress throughout the year. Please see the link below and subscribe to keep updated.
Thank you again for your support, we are looking forward to making everyone proud to be a part of the 49er's Racing Team's success!
We have made great progress on the chassis of our racecar. The chassis is the backbone of the racecar and the manufacturing process is the most integral to successful modeling and simulation of the vehicle dynamics.
We received the precision cut tubes from VR3 Engineering through Techmor Inc on Friday 11/2 and we quickly got to work organizing and assembling the jigs with the help of Bluco Inc and the UNC Charlotte Motorsports Engineering Faculty and Staff to support the structure.
After lots of hard work from some dedicated team members and alumni and we have the base of our backbone assembled and ready for the next set of tubes to be placed.
Stay tuned for updates to our progress and we'll keep working hard to make this project successful.
Thanks for your continued support!
Chassis design was finalized this week and the manufacturing process has began. More than 500 trim operations were resolved to develop tube profiles for manufacturing. Each chassis tube is individually numbered and located using a sequential system. The tubes will be profiled and bent using a 5-axis CNC tube bending and notching machine to ensure accurate parts. Jig development and construction has commenced for completion just-in-time for the chassis tubes completion. Stay tuned to see the progress!
Average cost of per fastener is $0.62. There are more than 900 fasteners on the FSAE car. Your donation can help cover the cost of nuts and bolts!
Now we're moving! So your donation can help us stop! Brake pads and rotors are wear items. Each test consumes a set of brake pads which are custom made for the FSAE car.
This is where the rubber meets the road. We take every opportunity to reach out to the local community and give back for the blessing we have received. Your donation can help cover the cost of transporting the car to these events.
Fueling the future of engineering! Each competition season the team consumes up to 200 gallons of high octane racing fuel. Your donation will cover the cost of fuel consumed during one testing session.
We can see the winner's circle from here! Each competition season the team can wear through as many as 40 tires, each tire is custom made for FSAE vehicles. Your donation can help cover the cost of a single tire.
