Witherspoon Greek Alumni Scholarship

2015 Dr. Loy H. Witherspoon Scholarship - A Scholarship For EVERY COUNCIL

Thanks to the generous support of the UNC Charlotte community, this scholarship was fully endowed in October of 2015 and after ONE YEAR earnings will spin off funds for an annual award. The new goal of this project is to raise an additional $10,000 to support the 2016 awarding of the Dr. Loy H. Witherspoon Greek Alumni Scholarship.  We would like to take advantage of the momentum around the November 13/14, 2015 Greek Reunion and raise $10,000 which will fund the following THIS YEAR:

• $5,000 to award five (5) scholarships at the 2016 Greek Awards Ceremony to a member from each of the five governing councils
• $5,000 to ensure that funding is available for the 2017 year and cushion the endowment fund.

Scholarship Founding Information  

The Dr. Loy H. Witherspoon Greek Alumni Scholarship was established as a result of the Alumni Chapter Member participation at the Greek Alumni Reunion on October 20, 2012.  The original donors were members of Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Phi, and Kappa Sigma.  Donors since the scholarship started have included members of all councils and nearly every chapter at UNC Charlotte.  

The scholarship will be presented to an undergraduate member of a fraternity or sorority.  recipients of the scholarship must satisfy the following criteria:

• An Active member in good standing with their organization
• Full time student
• Demonstrated leadership in their chapter
• Demonstrated leadership in the Fraternity/Sorority Community
• Minimum 2.5GPA
