At A Moment of Magic at UNC Charlotte, we believe every child deserves the chance to laugh, dream, and feel the wonder of being a kid.   Our student volunteers bring joy and comfort to children facing serious illnesses through magical visits, "Bravery Bags", and compassionate connection. With your support, we can train more Magic Makers and reach more families - restoring childhood, one moment of magic at a time. ✨

What is "A Moment of Magic" at UNC Charlotte?

 A Moment of Magic (AMoM) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to one simple belief: every child deserves to experience the wonder of being a kid, no matter what they’re going through. Our college student volunteers - known as Magic Makers - bring joy, laughter, and comfort to children facing serious illnesses and medical vulnerabilities. We step into hospital rooms, schools, and community spaces to bring light into dark days through character visits, creative programming, and compassionate connection. We help families hold on to moments of light during some of life’s darkest times, and remind children that they are more than their diagnosis: they are brave, strong, and full of magic.

Here at UNC Charlotte, we are proud to carry out this mission in our own community. Whether it’s delivering Bravery Bags, leading story time at a clinic, or simply sharing a moment of laughter, our Magic Makers stand alongside children and families when they need it most.

To make every visit safe and meaningful, our student volunteers receive specialized training from medical professionals. This includes child-led interaction techniques, pediatric cancer awareness, leadership, and professionalism. Your support ensures our Magic Makers are not only spreading joy, but doing so with compassion and care.

Children with serious medical conditions are 7x more likely to experience a mental health crisis than their peers. Yet fewer than one in three pediatric providers report having enough staff to meet children’s emotional needs.
