32% of Niners are First-Generation. These students are the first in their families to obtain a 4-year degree, this accomplishment is one we must celebrate! First-Generation Celebration Week events are aimed at providing space for celebration and connection for First-Gen students to see the value in being First. These events enable students to connect, celebrate their milestones, and create a sense of belonging and community here at Charlotte, which will have lasting impacts for our students beyond their years on campus.
This year, First-Generation Celebration Week will be November 4-10. During this week, we plan to build pride for our first-gen students by hosting a kickoff event, cookout, service at the food pantry, and much more! We encourage you to support and engage with us throughout the week.
"Being a first generation college student is incredibly meaningful to me, as it signifies that both my mother and I succeeded. It has opened my eyes to the vast opportunities available for myself and other first generation students, inspiring me to strive for greater achievements."
"First Generation to me feels like a privilege, I achieved something that none of my other family members have. I use it as inspiration to continue finding success while in school and in work. I will proudly call myself a first generation student and find ways to move forward in my career to make my family proud."
Weeks leading up to First-Generation Celebration Week, we will continue to share quotes and stories of our student's successes. This will allow you to see how your support impacts students at Charlotte! See you then!
